===========================================
NOTE: This deviation is a little outdated. You can now download "DarlingMionette's SAI Resources" at the bottom of the Custom Brush Supplement.
It is a .zip file of all my brush settings, textures, blank do-it-yourself resources, instructions for creating custom content, and associated start-sai.exe file that lets you register these files to your SAI without editing the .conf files manually :3 All in one convenient place. All of my current brush settings have been updated to match the files in the .zip file, and contain image examples for each. Be sure to read the README's! If you like it, then drop me a +fav on this deviation

*points to download button* it contains all the textures and screenshots for the settings of the brushes.. the only other thing you need is a program called start-sai.exe there is a download link and instructions provided in the .zip file :3

I can't say for sure, but try restarting it again with start-sai.exe and see if the brushes show up. if they don't, create a brush then close it down, reopen and see if the brush is missing - if so, it's possible you have a .dll that wen't corrupt and it wiped out your .conf file. In which case, you'll need to reinstall sai to be safe. If the brush stays, it may have just been a fluke, because sai can be rather finicky. sadly, it happens - and you'll just have to recreate the settings again. start-sai.exe doesn't wipe out your brushes, it just registers new textures.

I downloaded this and everything loaded but the papertex, only some of them did. I re-added it several times like you suggested but it still isn't working. :T

hrm.... <-not to make you sound stupid, but I'm doing this because I can never tell that people -have- actually done what was in the readme... and I always double check, so ignore me if i'm repeating stuff..... but make sure you followed ALL the steps of reinstalling.... close sai.. remove all the files... restart sai WITH start-sai.exe (it's what registers/unregisters the textures) check your menu's to make sure they're all gone.. close sai... move the files back, restart sia again with start-sai.exe and check your menu's. 99.9% of the time this will add the missing textures because sai is finicky -_- if it doesn't, check to make sure you actually have the texture you're missing in your textures folder. if it's there, check the filesize and make sure it's not 0. it may have gone corrupted when you transferred it from the zip. if that isn't the problem, count your textures... sai can only handle up to 99 before it freaks out. other than that, I dunno what would cause the issue -_-

Eeyup, the problem was that I had more than 90 saved on there... So I deleted some and now it's fixed!
Thanks a lot

awww yah that does make things harder -_- you should be able to shade similarly with a low opacity brush though. you'll just have to adjust the size a lot :/ graphic tablets make everything easier. lol

DarlingMionette In reply to myoo89 [2012-08-27 03:01:18 +0000 UTC]
I don't have the settings anymore XD but if I remember correctly it was a "brush" with a high density, simple circle brushshape, high blend, medium dilution, high persistence. you can mess around with the settings a bit, but keep those in mind and you should get something similar ^^

Thank you so much! I'm new to the program and although the interface was friendly, I was utterly confused when it came to all the brushes and the things to use. I had to test a lot of things out, but even then I had no idea what I was doing. I may actually get better thanks to this.
Thank you!

Which brush is the most bottom left on the picture "Below are some custom brushes I've created for SAI"?

unfortunately I no longer have most of the brushes listed in this particular tutorial, but you can find all the ones i do have in my custom brush supplement 2 (linked in the description) I think the one you're looking at is most like the Chunky brush with a different brush shape ^^ (try a bristle)

Man this is helpful~ <3 Thanks for this! little update though- The currency has upped a little, SAI is around $70 something now. I found that out when I bought it.

DarlingMionette In reply to Coffea-Tea [2012-07-21 18:27:22 +0000 UTC]
it's cause of the exchange rates ^^ they change daily - at the time I wrote the description it was around that much, but obviously it fluctuates so much that it's impossible to keep up with :/

Coffea-Tea In reply to DarlingMionette [2012-07-21 18:40:01 +0000 UTC]
Yeah- I think our value of the dollar keeps dropping- which makes things so much harder when you're buying something with a different currency... Hopefully they make some kind of converter that is updated frequently.

ok another stupid question
whats the difference between soft brush and a hard brush? anddd how do you make a hard brush
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to XxRainbow-InkxX [2012-07-18 23:00:40 +0000 UTC]
XD depends on your program on how to make it, but basically on a hard brush the edges of the brush are clear and don't blend as much as a soft brush.

XxRainbow-InkxX In reply to DarlingMionette [2012-07-18 23:03:01 +0000 UTC]
ohhh so i still use sai, and its just using a brush with a clear side and blending it? (my last question) sorry i have so many questions
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to XxRainbow-InkxX [2012-07-18 23:04:31 +0000 UTC]
no worries - make sure the settings are set to to a hard edge and the opacity/density are really high :3 that should do it - i generally paint with a semi-opaque hard-edged brush. it still gives me that bit of a solid edge, but blends pretty easily :3

these are so helpful i just looked through them ^^ but i still don't really know how to save a brush that i liked
like, i changed the dencity of a watercolor brush, the dilution etc, but i want to open them like the other brushes, the pen or eraser for instance, without having to change all those options everytime i need to change the brush
and i dont know how to do that yet XD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarlingMionette In reply to That-Dodo [2012-06-15 15:38:25 +0000 UTC]
XD all brushes automatically save their settings - you shouldn't have to edit them more than once.
