Description
A Shakespeare-inspired piece, based on the play 'Measure for Measure' (if you're unfamiliar, that's what Wikipedia is for, go! Go and learn! ).The art style, however, is more inspired by CLAMP, particularly their work on things like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle.
The sketch was drawn on paper, but everything else is digital. The inking was in manga studio with a custom pen tool I made myself. The colours are all in Photoshop. I was messing about with the 'wet media' brush presets. They're really fun, I found this one which behaves a little like watercolour or copic markers. Experimentation is always fun! ^_^

Oh cool, I love seeing classic literature adapted to manga style art!
I love the tapered lineart, especially on Angelo's face and the really thin lines on Isabella's skirt, and the use of white lines on black. And their emotional reactions to each other work really well! I would want to read this play now if not for the fact that I struggle so much with Shakespeare, haha.

You should totally try the Self Made Hero 'Manga Shakespeare' books. They're all drawn by British manga artists (a lot of whom are friends of mine) the art is great and they make understanding the plays a lot easier.

You sure did capture the CLAMP clothing designs well!

Haha, Thanks Rei. I think to go full-on CLAMP it needs more flared sleeves, arm bands, drainpipe trousers and...MORE wing motifs! ^_^;

I like it, but when I saw it, the first thing I thought was not "Measure for Measure" (which, admittedly, I've never finished), but rather "Huh, looks like Balmung is hitting on Esmerelda."
(Not that that's a bad thing, I liked the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Balmung is my favorite .hack character, but that's neither here nor there...)
...this isn't really a critique, is it? I like it. XD

Ummm, I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you saying she looks like Esmerelda because she's Latino? 0_o;

Well, Esmerelda was a gypsy, but no, it's just... she has that sort of look about her. I dunno how to put it. Don't make me describe what I think about stuff, I can rarely put it into words. D:

Thanks a lot. I'm quite pleased with the character interaction myself, it's something I should do more of really.
