Description Trying to get half decent at digital painting. It's not a skill that's come naturally to me at all. In fact, I've always been poor at painting compared to drawing as long as I can remember, even as a kid! I got some good advice from and which really helped a lot!

The character is from a story is writing. I hope to see her get it published someday. It's really good. She has been revising and rewriting the story ever since we were in High School together, so I've read and drawn many incarnations of this character, but she's remained one of my favourites of the story!

Painted in photoshop, approximate time 4 hours, mainly just using default round hard brush, but some brushes from:

Could she be thinking "Whoa, it's true! Every problem does look like a nail!"

Very pretty! Doesn't look at all like your normal fare, but that's probably the change in... uh... digital medium, I guess you could call it? I really like the colour selection and the choice of lighting; damned if there's anything exciting going on in the picture, but it still feels really evocative regardless thanks to your pallette and light.

Thanks man! I think the removal of the strong lines people typically associate with my work make my style look less obvious maybe.
Haha, yeah, she's just stood there. I wanted to get the hang of the medium and how to use light in this style before going crazy with action and stuff! ^_^;

Ah, yeah, it might be the lack of strong lines that does it. And it's probably for the best that you didn't go totally off-the-wall; my most common pitfall is overextending myself before I've found my feet. XD

Haha, yeah, some previous failed attempts I did go ridiculously ambitious. It's generally a bad idea to start a piece without knowing where you're going with it! ^_^;
