Description
This was made as an entry for the DeviantArt Prince of Persia competition.I was on the internet looking at Wacom tablets and going 'man, I need a bigger tablet, this A6 one is killing my wrist! But I'm a poor student and can't afford one!' and what pops into my DA inbox but a competition that's all 'hey, you know how you really like Prince of Persia games? Well, you could win a tablet for drawing POP fanart'.
...Okay, that's like something that would be the plot to a film. Except, obviously, if it were a film, I'd have some evil snooty rival, and if I didn't win, I'd have to give up drawing forever or something and I've have to do an awesome training montage...but I digress.
The new Prince seems to share with the old one a liking for complicated clothes. I think this may be the only character I've ever drawn who's more complicated than Sora from KH2! Funnily he doesn't look that complicated looking at the finished image, but I assure you, he's not easy to draw!
The pencils were done on paper with an HB 0.5mm mechanical pencil, and the inking was done in Manga Studio, then I exported the whole thing over to Photoshop for colours and effects. I kind of lost track of time, but I reckon 'time taken' for this was around the 6-8 hours mark.

It's always really neat to see how you interpret game and manga characters so now I have to kick myself for not having played this game and go look up a comparison picture on google images. Arm anatomy = gggh awesome. I really like the detail on the claw hand and the pattern on his knee guard, too. The colors (the eye color!) make me want to just stare at it for a long time-- but you already knew that because I say it in pretty much every post I ever make about your art, ever. : )

Haha, well, it's nice to see there are other people putting in a proper effort instead of just making photoshopped montages. Even if it lowers my chance of winning, I just like to see people making an effort and doing good art, you know?

Noooo! If good people like you enter, instead of all these idiots just sticking a photoshop filter onto the official art, it seriously decreases my chances of getting the delicious tablet!

I dunno if that would be the most entertaining of movies, but hell, they stole my haunted cellphone idea, so who knows?
You prolly could have stood to add a couple stray sparky sparks flying off of his claw mangling the wall, but otherwise the pic looks great. I can see how that outfit would be a pain in the rear, so great job with that (fantasy characters these days apparently like to mug scarecrows for their clothes and dress in the dark, haha.) And though I prefer your usual brighter coloring style, I like how the muted hues you used here fit in better with the style of the new game.

I like it, but... I don't feel like it's your best, to be honest. The colors feel a little flat, and probably would've benefited from some more saturation or a highlight to match the shading. His pose is kind of lackluster, too- a shift in angles or in his body weight would make it really dynamic, if a little unfeasible.
Arg, I didn't mean to sound so critical... like I said, I really do like it, one way or the other. Good luck!

I was going for flat colours to match the feel. I felt that my usual bolder, more manga style with harder shading would look at odds with the style of the series. I almost didn't shade it at all, but last time I went totally flat, people didn't like it.
Hmm, the pose probably is a bit stilted, but I prefer to go for a pose that looks like it could be done than dynamism for its own sake. The complexity of the design doesn't help, he took ages to plan and draw. When I draw my own characters, or simpler characters, there's more energy because I don't need to plan so much.

Well, it's a UK only comp, so I say go for it. If it were a universal DA competition I wouldn't have bothered, but I think the chances aren't so bad if it's UK only. 'Sides, you never know, you might get a free tablet and/or an X-box, and that's not a bad deal!

Depends what kind of Wacom you have I guess. Mine is an A6, so the chance to get an A5 is worth taking. I also have no current gen consoles, so a free X-box would not be something to sneeze at!
It's fun to enter anyway, if anything you'd have a heck of a christmas present to give to somebody if you didn't want it yourself!
