I did Rekki, so I figured I ought to do Subo as well. Subo was a funny character design, he started off not very cute at all, then went very bishy, then he went not so cute again, then he ended up as you see him. He wouldn't be all that cute if he didn't have those big eyes. Well, okay, he does have a veeery nice body too, but I'm avoiding fanservice both male and female, as this is an enlightened, modern comic!The design on his shirt is the kanji for 'Big' drawn in a stylised way, it suits him.
Most of the male characters in FanDanGo are in the wings, moving the plot around, and Subo is for a large portion of the story the only main character who is male. I'm much better at depicting and understanding female characters, making male characters who are believable is daunting. I didn't want a typical 'ladies man' or 'pervert' character, men can't all be like that, it's an oversused anime cliche.

Not a very typical looking knight.. but I like that ^^ I hope you dont mind me saying.. but he actualy looks a bit like a surfer with the long hair and the vest thing.
You are good at drawing the folds in clothes. I myself have to work on that.

Hahaha, I think I went overboard with the flowery shirt maybe ^_^ I wanted to redefine 'knights' for the comic. They're more like Jedi knights than Medievil knights in a lot of ways, sort of a mixture of Samurai, Ninja, Superhero, Knight, Mercenary and Private Detective. They're part of an ancient society full of customs, but as individuals, they're modern young people.

overused anime cliche indeed. But you could have also made him stuck up, rude, arrogant/snobbish, intelligent and reserved, stupid and reserved, stupid and outgoing, hard-working and noble etc etc or any other one dimensional box you want to stuff him in. I personally think it's better to let a character grow and change throughout the story like a real person would, you know? Put down like ten adjectives that you think fit him, and when you need a reaction, check back with your list to see if it works out. When events happen that would change the character, change the list. ^_^
I like Subo's design. Kind of the clumsy, lovable oaf so far, even if he's not especially cute. He seems like a warm-hearted, friendly guy who kind of just wants to get by and smell the flowers on the way. Being a knight doesn't really seem to suit him, but he does it for whatever reason. I'm sure he's got some sort of secret past that made him close off a part of himself, so he only shows the aloof, happy side to people. I'm interested to see how he develops. ^_~
