I'd like to see a DS9 movie about the final battle against the Dominion in Cardassian space.

I'm a old Trek and movie fan and I like most old fans have been asking for this. I don't know about the new look of the old ship but I did not like the TMP verison at first and now it's my fav. I think they did great with the cast and the movie looks like it will be pretty good. The only bad things I have seen is from the Next Gen fans that wanted it to be a Next Gen movie or Star Wars fans that hate Trek. I'm looking forward to it and the next one.

Most of them forget that if it was not for TOS the others might never have happen. I can't wait to see the new movie.

I don't see how Shatner/Kirk was a wannabe anything. And at least the original bridge can be blamed on it being the 60s. Plus sometimes a more angular look is better than smooth curves and bright lights.

No, I understand what you were trying to say. I was also making other points that you totally missed either by blindness, or arrogance.

Hahaha! No, I got it...and I enjoyed the piece! I'm just saying that I will always prefer the old school Star Trek versus all the new spinoff series and new generations! Even the new movie which spans the early days of Kirk and Spock is a great notion and I'll see that when it comes out, there's still nothing quite like the old corny Star Trek!

Keiichi-K1 In reply to ??? [2009-05-06 01:05:35 +0000 UTC]

This is all true, but you know how hardcore fans over-react over the smallest detail. I remember a big discussion on the Okudagrams.com forum that the grille in the Captain's Quarters seen on "A Mirror Darkly"(ENT) were not EXACTLY like the ones seen on TOS, how it was made of hexagons instead of circles, blah blah blah.

Every type of fandom has its extremes, and they always make us feel slightly ashamed (as fans ourselves)

davemetlesits In reply to Keiichi-K1 [2009-05-06 18:46:55 +0000 UTC]

They don't understand that it's just a campy TV series people watch for entertainment. Who cares about the grille thing if we can see the Enterprise beat some serious Klingon/Romulan/whatever ass...

AlienDudel In reply to Keiichi-K1 [2009-05-06 04:32:01 +0000 UTC]

Ashamed or proud? Definitely proud, man, Star Trek is in the details.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Keiichi-K1 In reply to AlienDudel [2009-05-06 18:07:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, Star Trek has great details, sure. But Star Trek's primary importance lays in its characters, story, writing, and message that is implied in every episode and film. Not only that, the positive outlook on the future, and message of peace and brotherhood. (really appealed to the hippy generation of late 60's, early 70's, but then stopped being cool in the 80's and 90's - which gave Trekkies the "nerd" label).

When people nitpick the tiniest detail, and forget what Star Trek is truly about, THAT is when I am ashamed of them.

This is the first time that I actually think the TOS bridge has better style... oh and Nichelle Nichols has indefinitely more class.

But let's see. Enough time to pass judgment after the movie.

OatmealCookies In reply to ??? [2009-05-05 22:08:28 +0000 UTC]

It really is accurate.
The new movie is EXACTLY what TOS would have been like if it had been made today and had a massive budget.

Promus-Kaa In reply to OatmealCookies [2009-05-06 04:18:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm calling bullshit on that one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PxRxSxRx In reply to Promus-Kaa [2009-05-06 11:17:10 +0000 UTC]

I agree with them... especially since in a manor of speaking it is TOS being made today with a massive budget. The rules and style are a bit different today so you've got to keep up. Although without Star Trek pushing some of those rules and inspiring some of those styles who knows were we'd be today if Star Trek hadn't been made until now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Promus-Kaa In reply to PxRxSxRx [2009-05-07 07:34:12 +0000 UTC]

That's simply not true. None of the designs I'm seeing from the film follow Matt Jefferies' (the production designer for TOS) design aestetics (practicality, modularity, and clean, spartan, high-tech design features). If Matt Jefferies were doing the design work on the new movie, it wouldn't look the way it does.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PxRxSxRx In reply to Promus-Kaa [2009-05-07 07:59:13 +0000 UTC]

Something tells me that the way he would have designed everything might have changed in the 43 years between now and then. Technology has changed, style has changed, so has the overall outlook on how things will be in the future. If they would have made Star Trek for the first time now and made it look exactly the way it did back then no one would watch it because it would look cheap and unrealistic by today's standards.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Promus-Kaa In reply to PxRxSxRx [2009-05-07 17:54:18 +0000 UTC]

Unlike everyone who has worked on Star Trek since TOS, Matt Jefferies was a real-life aeronautics engineer. He knew what an organization would ACTUALLY use in a spaceship setting, and he was familiar with the types of design characteristics that are highly desired by organizations like the Air Force, NASA, or even Starfleet. What's popular to consumers is different than what is sought after by practical military designers.

Ergo, Jefferies would still have designed the Enterprise with modular components, clean, spartan lines and PRACTICALITY above all. Desk lamps shining on glowing screens are NOT something he would have done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PxRxSxRx In reply to Promus-Kaa [2009-05-08 13:14:07 +0000 UTC]

Except that the Enterprise is comparable to a Naval vessel traveling through space than the space shuttle or anything NASA has made or will make in the near future, and the glowing panels display information and/or are touch screen controls (more multifunctional than buttons and knobs) and thus are quite practical, the desk lamps were a bit out of place though.
