Touchscreens are annoying and unreliable. I much prefer physical buttons with physical wiring - if a touchscreen fails, the whole thing goes down and you can't use ANY of the "buttons" on it. On a physical set of buttons, if one of the buttons fails then you can just unscrew it and check the wiring (and easily fix it). It's a matter of hardware vs software - and hardware is always easier to fix (or operate).
And yes, the desk lamps WERE out of place.

Touchscreens have been massively improving over just the past few years, one can only imagine that they will be even more advanced in the future. Once can't forget Moore's law. Besides, it's easier to replace a touch screen than find a wiring problem in a control panel, it would essentially be plug and play versus having to get the ship's electrician up there.
Also what you prefer is irrelevant as the trends of technology and life in general would influence the way things will look and function in the future, not someone who seems to be just a little bit stuck in the past because they think the the projected outlook for the design and style of the future was more accurate in 1966 than it is now a full 43 years later.

...~PxRxSxRx wins! You are right though. There is a GIANTIC gap between 4 decades. Heck, if they remake the entire thing again in another 40 or something years, .... actually, I don't want to think just how much of a gap that would be!
Point is, it's been a long time and the makeover isn't really a makeover; it's a (massive) touch up.
BTW saw the movie, beyond awesome.

Real mature. I love that when people can't win argument rather than just admitting defeat or suggesting to agree to disagree they fall back on obscenities. I would expect more from a Star Trek fan...

I'm not admitting defeat, I'm just trying to avoid protracting a pointless exchange of bickering. Neither one of us is going to change our opinion, and you're getting really pushy with yours, so I figured I'd be the grown-up here and be man enough to take the step to end the conversation.

I'm sorry, I had though that's what I had done after you told me, and I quote, "Yeah, fuck you too." But I agree, this is probably going nowhere at this (or any point) so we should agree to disagree as I had suggested before.
Did you at least like the new movie? Even if you had to take a step back from the Star Trek of the past and look at it in a way that can be enjoyed and understood by a generation where more kids have ADHD (this is an obvious and deliberate exaggeration) than don't.

I liked certain aspects of the movie. Other aspects completely spoiled it for me. I liked the new transporter effect and the Spock/Uhura thing, but that was pretty much it. The story was okay as a generic sci-fi movie story, but as Star Trek (much less TOS) it failed to deliver. They weren't the same people (in personality/character as well as appearence) and I just missed my old friends.

We have a bad habit with my mum when we watch TOS (I made her a Trekkie LOL) that we wonder about which parent of Spock was a horse
