Description
Credit as usual to Quantum808/kevinveldar/marcusstarkiller/captshade/adrasil/kaisernathan1701/nichodo for the parts (along with any others I may have missed). You guys are awesome to release + upload all that stuff for us to use.Special thanks to bastardshipyards for the secondary hull. Proved excellent for this design, methinks
This is a TMP-Movie-era through-deck supercarrier. It was challenging drawing a design from this hull that I actually enjoyed - not impossible, by any means, but it's tough to balance such a small saucer with such a large secondary section. It ended up being worth it for the realism of a 'carrier in space', though! That and the nacelles. I'm quite satisfied with the results.
Named for Wilbur and Oroville Wright, the inventors of aerospace flight technology on earth in the early twentieth century. With the success of similar carrier designs such as the Lobos-class, Starfleet commissioned the construction of a new class of carriers designed exclusively for fleet operations and deployment alongside supporting vessels or escorts. As such, the Wright is minimally armed, featuring a much smaller saucer and lower-powered phasers compared to it's through-deck counterpart. This is done, however, in exchange for modularity - it's square saucer, as well as block-like secondary hull and redundant deflectors, makes the design tough and consistently reliable for maintenance. Unusually, the Wright features four primary deflectors alongside it's hull. Though most cruisers could suffice on one deflector alone, the Wright's sizeable compliment of small craft demands a deflector field power and radius beyond the capabilities of a single dish, along with the added benefits of redundancy. Similarly, the Wright's 'flight bridge', located on the aft top bulkhead of the secondary hull, serves to coordinate flight operations independent of the already crowded primary bridge.
Though the Wright was designed for carrier fleet operations, it can also double as a bulk transport or a hospital ship if required for disaster relief (due to it's large internal space). Beyond it's flight crew, the Wright has a minimal compliment of personnel, living mostly in cramped quarters throughout the primary saucer or saucer 'neck'.
Just an interim design while I work on a few more. (It's an ugly betty, I know.) Stay tuned!

Different good
I like classic too, but I love something a bit more challenging to convention.

I think it looks good. Not of Earth's own Starfleet design standards, but perhaps it could have been designed by a design team from a Federation colony as a way of making a name for themselves.

So true. And other species in Starfleet designed their own ships. Look at the Andor Class for example.
I actually made some Andorian Starfleet designs of my own.
