Description
Here's the WIP for 'Two of a Kind' - a little late, but I'm just behind on uploading. The first seven are photos, so please excuse their poor quality. The last is a scan of the original.
What I did:
1. Sketched out the basic shapes
2. Refined outlines
3. Covered them in a layer of HB
4. My first layer of shading
5. The deepest shadows
6. More darkening
7. Highlights on the frontal horse, and rubbing grey into the background.
8. Finishing touches - all the highlights, erasing edges, ect.
This was drawn with 2H - 8B pencils. The reference is linked on the full size deviation, which can be found here: [link]
This one is the first WIP I've shown where I have a background, but it's really not hard - it's just the same as my first layer; HB pencil rubbed around with a paper towel under my finger. The reason I did it was that I thought that, with the light horses, it would really bring the horses to the foreground. What do you think?
Thanks for looking! I hope this has inspired you to draw, as well.

Thank you very much for posting this! I've been trying to explore blending techniques more, and this was a huge help and an inspiration It was great to read your stages and your reasoning for doing the background this way.
