Description
After submitting that parody version of Condor Joe's 25 expressions [link] , I decided to take a crack at it for real. So here ya go: Joe's 25 degrees of scary-looking.
The expression template came from 's page here [link] . I kept it sketchy-looking on purpose because I wanted to emulate the original design sketches I've seen for this character.

The silly one is well, just silly
Joe is always the one giving me a hard time drawing. Especially his nose.(why can't anime characters have realistic noses anymore huh?!)

I've heard a lot of artists say Joe is tough to draw, and it's true that the realism of Tatsunoko's hero style doesn't really fit in with the current anime/manga style. You've done a wonderful job with your version of Joe/Jason.

I think it's the eyes. He has the most distinctive eyes I've ever seen on an anime character. You can get away with straightening his nose and chin and "prettying" him up some, but the eyes have to be right.

The Triumph one looks totemo kowai. Eep. 
The ill/nauseous pic makes me think that maybe he tried some of Cryxian home cooking and found out after the fact what was in it.
Really well done!! I should do this exercise for Ch'laen (and Spirit, too).

It was an interesting exercise, and one that would be good for Ch'laen and Spirit. I would recommend editing out a few of the too-similar expressions ("incredulous" and "wtf" for example). I think I rushed through a couple of these, and will have to go back and redo a couple to make 'em "pop" better.
Yeah, the "triumph" one is scary, but then, he's probably looking at his opponent. You know how he gets.

LOL -- yes, the other one IS priceless.
I love this one, though, too. And boy, does it make it clear how rarely the Condor cracks a real smile. Serious, angry, and even sadness and rage are quite familiar, but silly is a whole new look for him!

I can think of a couple of genuine smiles he pulled in the episodes, and for the silly, I thought of the one where he's being all bashful with Mikhail's mom. But yeah, he's the serious type.

I can think of at least one episode where he's genuinely laughing, too, and every time I see it I think I should do screencaps. Joe needs more to smile about in life. He does look darn fine even when he glowers, though, so more power to him.

The only time i can remember him being goofy or silly is when Ryu thought his Dad was dead...he was really negative at first, and then Jun elbowed him and corrected him...so he tried to play it off like, "Of course your father is ok, he's and experienced seaman..."
He looked so goofy and out of character there...

That's true, he did laugh at his own jokes in that ep. He was such a jerk then, like he had it in for Ryu.

There is one where he's laughing, true. There's also a really scary one of his being sarcastic after they all think Ken died. I do have a good smile screencap (albeit blurry): [link]
I think I will do a new sheet up for other characters with fewer boxes and different expressions. After I do that, I'll take a crack at Ken.

There are also more of him smiling in II and F, like in Gatch II after he gets back and throws Ken on the ground he gets a laugh.

Yeah, I need to update my screenshots. I have them, just need to put 'em up... aheh....
He seemed to smile more in G-II and Fighter, but some of it seemed a bit out of character for him.
I came up with a sheet of 18 expressions, and just need to lay it out (fires up Illustrator).
