Description
Here's my planet creation tutorial. I decided to share my technique of creating planets since I keep getting asked how I make mine. I think this method is a little easier and simpler than some other. The reason I didn't give a lot of information in the texture creation part is because there are a lot of tutorials out there that explain it, so I didn't find a reason to put myself through the effort of writing it in-depth.I hope this tutorial helps you out. I tried making this easy to understand. You don't have to strictly follow these steps, you can experiment doing other things aswell. This is just a basic planet creation tutorial. I think everyone needs to develop their own ways of creating advanced planets, because otherwise everyone's planets will look the same.
Anyways, I hope you find this useful and answers some of your questions on how to create planets in Photoshop.

Really useful tutorial, ill try it! THanks for sharing!, maybe you should compress it more. 1 mb its too big, we dont have to see all the texture details, just the way it should be done!

Ah finally something for the beginners. Except that I'm stuck on the part of erasing the outside shadow, I just can't get photoshop to do it! I'm guessing you made this for photoshop 7.0 (I use CS.) Thanks alot though, at least I now have a "platform" to work on. And for everyone out there looking for textures, just use abstract/grungy brushes! They work.

Heh, interesting to see how you do your planets Allthough it differs from Alyn's or Gregs tutorials only in the lenght of it and the way you do your atmosphere and document size. Im faving this none the less.

Egads! Clever! I hadn't thought of Spherize I must experiment with this *stomach tingles*
Only hopefully I will be able to create something new and refreshing in the genre, but it seems that's quite hard to achieve, really.
