Description UPDATESince dA ate the zip file a while back and I don't have the files for the HTML version anymore, this deviation will simply let you download the JPG version. Yes, it's a bit redundant, but let's just think of it as a redirection.

Here is the description from the old tutorial:

Ok, so over the ages, i noticed that if there is one thing that space artists (especially newcomers) struggle with, then it has to be planet textures. Lots of them just cant get their planets to look good, cant find good textures, or simply dont have 3d studio max

So i decided to throw everyone a bone, and i made a tutorial on how to make a somewhat realistic-looking planet using only photoshop. Be adviced that you need to have some basic photoshop knowledge to follow this, and if not, i suggest you spend 50 dollars on the adobe photoshop book, or read the help files that photoshop came with)

Enjoy, make the most of it, and dont hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions.

I promised myself upon reading this that I'd make my words of appreciation as well phrased as possible.

But this is so awesome, all I can really say is HOLY SHIT.
They need a tutorial of this caliber for everything!

it looks great, but it seems like kind of a shortcut...i use basic photoshop tools for my planets (it shows ) but it actually makes you work harder to acheive what you want. i just like to challenge myself, and using a (for lack of a better term) "premade" texture doesn't do it for me. just my thoughts.

Good idea releasing it in a html version. Perhaps should do the same.

But this tut is still just as amazing, and everyone - including myself - is very lucky for you to have written it.

this is one well crafted and nifty tut you got here, diny. i always wondered how you went about creating those great planets and now i'm happy to see that you shared it with the many who wondered just the same. should have known it was all just a rock texture!

good idea including the whole .jpg and the html document in there as well. (others should do the same!)

dinyctis In reply to halfliquid [2003-12-12 18:59:57 +0000 UTC]

actually i only used a rock for this one

for other planets i used the texture of a...........

ready for this?
