No, just the standard hard round brush at varying sizes but having the canvas at twice the resolution helps to keep it crisp looking. Also you can clean up the edges with the eraser as you go. Especially for pointy things. Hope that helps

Cool :d hey just wondering here, when doing the line art do u use the pencil or brush?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
dizzyclown In reply to Blaze2876 [2010-07-23 04:44:52 +0000 UTC]
I use the brush :] I rarely use the pencil unless it needs to be pixel accurate cause that's all the pencil really does is draw pixels as it has no softness to the edge. But I guess if you like the look of the line, you can use the pencil for sketching. It would have a really graphical look. It's up to you :]

Um not to be a bother but How do you make a lineart from scratch? As in you do everything with the tablet and havent had a hand-drawn pic to ref by?

dizzyclown In reply to angry-wolf-for-life [2010-06-17 04:11:33 +0000 UTC]
That's alright :] I usually do everything with my tablet from sketch to finish, but you can start with a hand-drawn picture as well. Just scan it an open in photoshop and follow the rest of the tutorial. You can use reference if it makes you feel more comfortable. The purpose of this tutorial is just to show the technique I use to clean up the lines in such a way that they may be colored easily. :]
Also, to make a new layer to can press Ctrl+Shift+N or click the little button that looks like a page with the corner flipped up. In the tutorial, you can see it in step 3 at the bottom of the layers window, second from the right. Next to the trash can.

OMG I was studying people art and notice the origianl canvas size. If this was told a bit more, a lot of people wouldnt have problems with coloring.
My only question, do you resize after you color or before?

dizzyclown In reply to P-A-U-S-E [2010-03-04 21:04:33 +0000 UTC]
Cool, I'm glad it helped! I resize after I color it You always should have a high res copy of you artwork for printing purposes and what not, so you never really want to work with something like a 72 dpi 800x800 canvas anyway --not just because of the lines!
Usually you should only use smaller dimensions for the purpose of showing on the internet so the pic doesn't go off-screen. While creating the piece, however, try to keep it's real-life proportions in mind. On screen, 800x800 pixels seems kinda big, but if you were to print it out at 72 dpi, it wouldn't even fill a normal printer paper size and you don't want that or else it's not useable outside of the internets D: What if you want to make a nice poster or t-shirt or something at some point? Or you get approached by a client someday who thinks your work would look perfect on these mugs he's selling or something and he's willing to pay you for the rights? Then you wouldn't end up getting any money 'cause it would turn out the pic is too small to print! D8 And then you'll be all
Also... don't just color/ink the image at 50 %; you can start that way so you get a good sense of how the piece is working on a whole, but make sure to zoom in and clean up :] The pic should still look good at 100% no matter how big it is, but making the canvas bigger will definitely help you clean up the lines and choosing a higher DPI will give you more pixels to work with so everything is overall smoother even at 100%. :]
Hope that was helpful! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial.

That's the best reply i received in months...
I fully understand. I was practicing the other day and i found it comfortable to draw at 200%. All i really need is a better conception of colors and designs.
But anyway thanks a lot. I'm currently drawing 2100x2100 on average (7x7in.) with 300dpi I noticed a huge improvement in my art and it's all because of you. Thanks

Nice ^^ I used to do all my lineart in Photoshop (a lot like that, actually), but it was really time consuming for me - I have really, really shaky hands. So I still prefer to finalize all my lineart with a pencil. I find a pencil/micron pen much easier to control than my tablet.

File >> Save As
then pick "JPEG" from the bottom drop down list. Type in the file name you want to use and press ok! Then you can customize the .jpg compression with another little window that comes up. And press okay again. :3

I end up faving tutorials that I think will help me... and then I seldom go back to them again. This is THE FIRST one I have ever read that suggests something like making the picture double the size you intend because then it will look better at 50%.. that is just... brilliant... why didn't I think of that before? I mean I knew it, but why didn't I think of it. Anyway, I'm faving THIS one and I'll probably be back to it! I'm actually excited to use my bigger tablet now! (Ok, I was excited before, but pressure sensitivity issues tick me off greatly) Anyway, I'm going to stop rambling now....
