  "Oh Spike," Twilight spoke, her eyes welling up with tears as she observed him, once so small, but now a fully-grown dragon. "Look at you, my Faithful Assistant, now Equestria's Royal Dragon Ambassador!... I'm so proud of you."

  "I couldn't have done it without you, Twi." Spike grinned, his chest puffing with pride. After seeing Twilight's tears rolling down her cheek, he couldn't repress a sniffle himself. He drew her into a powerful embrace, the pony he had served dutifully for years, his best friend, his family.

I was listening to some emotional music and this was the product.

In my Next Gen canon, Spike takes on a more important role in Equestria besides being Twilight's assistant. As the Dragon Lands have begun to undergo reform and development thanks to Dragon Lord Ember, an ambassador was needed to represent Equestria in matters of peace treaties and border settlements, as well as possible alliance, etc. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna decided to propose the role to Spike, who maintained friendship with Ember (whom taught him more about his heritage/culture along the years). With his knowledge on dragon culture (and, you know, the fact that he is a dragon), he was the perfect fit, and Spike readily accepted the title. Looks like he's got another name to put under his belt besides 'Spike the Brave and Glorious', hehe.

This was mostly a quick sketch I dressed up, nothing fancy (I nabbed the background from Google). His suit was made by Rarity, by the way. She was so proud of her "Spikey-Poo" and cried a river at his ceremony held in Canterlot. This piece shows a special moment between Twi and Spike before they head over to the ceremony. I really love the relationship between them.
