"Dad!"

Discord braced himself for the small, excited bundle that collided into him. Jinx squirmed in his grasp, wriggling his way up to bump their snouts together in an affectionate greeting. He giggled vigorously when Discord twirled him in the air.

"There he is! How's my favorite little trouble-maker? I hope you've been misbehaving, son!" Discord grinned, giving him an affectionate noogie on the head. Jinx shrieked in delight.

"I've been trying, Dad, but Nana Lula keeps sending me to Time Out!" Jinx's grin faded into a pout as he crossed his arms. Discord snorted at his son's expression and set him down.

"Well, then! We'll just have to have a talk with the old mare, won't we? No son of mine will be sent to Time Out on account of making a little chaos!" He winked at his son playfully, snapping his finger, causing the little stool at the corner of the room, Jinx's Time Out corner, to disappear. Jinx grinned at the sight.

"Right! After all, I'm the Prince of Chaos! Right, Dad?" The young draconequus looked up at his father, puffed up with pride.

Discord froze, dreading the following conversation.

"...Hey, Dad?...Why can't I come live with you in Canterlot?" Jinx asked shyly after a moment. He fidgeted slightly, clawing the the ground.

Because I'm not ready to let this secret out yet.

Discord cleared his throat and bundled his son close to him after what seemed like ages, his mind reeling, looking for a good answer- anything but the truth.

"Well, you see, son, Equestria just... isn't ready for a Prince of Chaos yet!" Discord forced a grin onto his face, peering down at Jinx's wide, expectant eyes. His son's brow furrowed in thought.

"...What do you mean?"

"What I mean is that ponies still haven't learned to appreciate the awesomeness of chaos just yet. I-If you made your big debut now, they wouldn't get it!" Discord waved his hands dramatically to illustrate his point, keeping a careful eye on how his son reacted to the lame explanation. Jinx looked at the ground, his eyes flitting about, a sign that he was mulling it over. Discord waited with bated breath.

"...Huh, I never thought of like that.... But I guess it's better this way- It gives me some more time to practice my chaos magic!" Jinx's mood lifted immediately, a confident smirk lighting his face. "Don't worry, Dad, I'll work super hard and make them ready for a Prince of Chaos!" Jinx pranced around his father, striking poses as if he were already manifesting chaos about the room, his tongue sticking out in concentration. Discord let out the breath he was holding, relieved Jinx hadn't seen right through him.

"And once I become the official Prince of Chaos, we'll always be together, right?" Jinx glanced up at his father, his tail wagging in excitement. Discord flashed him a wide smile, chalk full of paternal pride. He scooped Jinx up once more into his arms, hugging him tightly.

"You're a chip off the old block, Jinxie! Of course we'll always be together." Jinx wriggled closer, nuzzling him affectionately.

"In the meantime, this has to stay our little secret, alright?" Discord murmured, rocking his son gently.

"Okay, Dad- it's our secret."

Inside, Discord felt his heart sinking like a stone.

You're a terrible father.

Hmm, yup, I'm on a Grottoverse binge. Explanation time!

Even though Discord and Trixie weren't always present in Jinx's upbringing, they still made genuine efforts to visit their son at least several times a week. Jinx adored these visits and was always excited to see his parents- especially Discord. Jinx was too young to know the delicateness of the situation revolving his upbringing, making both Trixie and Discord weary whenever he'd ask why he always had to stay hidden away. The treatment of his son always weighed heavy on Discord's mind- he genuinely loves his son, but is simply afraid of the reaction ponies would have to the scandal, wanting to protect Jinx from the scrutiny he'd face. Discord's "little secret" will have a terrible effect for Jinx and their relationship down the road- and he knows it. Nonetheless, Discord keept the truth to himself for a long time, never wanting to intentionally hurt his son, but already too far gone with the lie to fix things.

The relationship between Discord and Jinx is super fun for me to explore- they definitely had a strong bond when Jinx was growing up- but all of that changes when he's older. There'll be more on them later on, but in the meantime, enjoy guys! Also, what did you think of the dialogue? Sorry for any grammar mistakes, etc.- I'm a little rusty on writing, heh. Hopefully I can get better, though! Enjoy, everyone!
