Description
Like a tutorial except without the tl;dr thing. The only thing to know is Saturation = brightness (in very simplified terms)
Any questions, ask away ^^
ps: I could have done a more detailed tutorial, but it would have been very very long and text-y.

In paint tool SAI, you'll have to use the watercolor brush. Maximize the brush size. So how it works: You use the regular brush and fill in some color > with the watercolor brush you smudge the borders.
Or you can try photoshop, it's much easier.

question!!!
1- how did u make ur sketches blue?
2- how did put sakura and naruto together in a same layer or so when u drew then seperatly? did u click the eye beside the layer?

1- [link]
2- In the sketches, they weren't in the same layer. I just kept all the layers
visible (the eye beside the layer). That's why you see them.
When I traced the lineart, I drew full bodies
in one layer and the closeups in another.

So you did all of this in Sai; even the gradient. I didn't know gradients were available in Sai. Also how did you get the greyscale in Sai?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
e-nat In reply to devilish-g [2010-05-13 06:10:43 +0000 UTC]
um no....I only do the normal cel shading in SAI and then take it to
photoshop.
The grayscale thing was only a special effect for the tutorial.
Though you can do it in SAI and PS by duplicating the layer and reducing the
saturation to 0 (ctr+u).

Ok; I appreciate the quick response. I never thought of using less saturation; when painting. Looking at your artwork it seems to work out great. So I'll give it a go.
I hope I can get my mouse to get that precise shading like you. I've gotta break down and get a tablet.

BRAVO! MAGNIFICENT!
It gave some ideas.
Say, has your tablet ever stopped working just like that while you draw and you had to unplug and plug it? And sometimes it just starts working again.

e-nat In reply to Musou-Enrai [2010-05-11 17:48:53 +0000 UTC]
lol never so far, maybe your PC-tablet connection is not good.
Might be the installation or the cable?

Musou-Enrai In reply to e-nat [2010-05-12 23:12:31 +0000 UTC]
Yup! It just might be the crappy Tablet. After all, it was the cheapest we could find. I got it at the end of 2006. I had it ever since and yet, I haven't used it that much! The poor baby!
But it's pissing me off sometimes with those constant random shut downs. Nevertheless, I like it. It's all I have... for now.
Hmm... I might try pluging in the USB ports on the back of the case. Sometimes the PC doesn't detect my USB flash memory when I plug in from the front side. And I did update it's drivers. We'll see! Thanks!
By the way, what are your tablet's specs?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
e-nat In reply to Musou-Enrai [2010-05-13 04:21:35 +0000 UTC]
definitely the tablet
(I suspect the cable but hey, it's all the same)
The specs..mmmm supposedly the older version of this [link]
I'm trying to find it but no luck. Once a thing gets a upgraded, the old stuff gets hidden.
It's a wacom bamboo tablet (smallest size)

Something like this: [link]
Hmm... I'll search around the net about my "Genius" tablet of mine... again. Thanks for the info!
P.S. If all fails I can chow down on the cable! That might work! You never know!

exactly like that, except messier lol
no problem, don't chew too much on the cable.
It will electrocute your brain

Really? Why didn't you say so earlier?
The cable's in for a major chewjob!
NOMNOMNOM!
By the way, yesterday I used it and guess what - I didn't give me any problems. Let's just hope it won't next time too... and after that.

since no one reads it.

that's cool! I wanted to know how you did your fanarts, so thanks
the only thing I've been wondering for a long time about, is how you make the lineart in colors?
for example Sakura's clothes
first your lineart is black, but her shirt is blue
so do you make your lineart again but not in black but in blue colors?
sorry if I'm explaining this horrible
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
e-nat In reply to WammysCosplay [2010-05-10 19:06:34 +0000 UTC]
heh, in this case I overlayed the sketch and
lineart layers to show the difference.
But I get what you mean, to change the color of lines
you have to "lock opacity". It allows you to color the
lines in that layer and nothing else. Color will not
spill over other things.
usually this option is near layer options. Like lock layer, new layer
etcc....[link]
same thing with Photoshop.

That's usually how I do my art processing. The only difference is that I use Photoshop alone and sometimes I don't use the pen tool for straight lines. I also don't usually do gradients but I have on occasion.

Must be a universal thing, I copied it from Japanese speedpaints lol
PS can be annoying to use, and it does take a lot of time grrrr.
I hate drawing/coloring in it

Paint tool sai has vector tools? is that the lineart layer thingy you can chose instead of a normal layer???
