Description
My 2nd watercolor tutorial. It might looks pretty long, because it's filled with many pictures to help you understand my process, instead of using a lot of texts.
Edit: Wet in Wet is : Adding wet colors on damp sheet of paper or an area of still-wet paint, and let them run out over the wet surface, giving soft-hazy effect
If you have any watercolor question, Feel free to ask me.

2 days is quite easy for most artists though, I have some big acrylic artworks which I spent 1-3 months making each.

this is amazing, but how do you keep your watercolors from bleeding outside of the lines?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to Lunatiri [2014-09-19 23:42:18 +0000 UTC]
steady hand and sharp paintbrush, also with proper amount of paint and water in the brush.

this is such a nice tutorial!!!
But how do you keep the paint from bleeding and coming out of the outlines when you are painting/blending in small areas? I always have a problem with this :cΒ
But thanks for making this! it's so amazing!Β Β

how do I shade the skin in with these colours:
Raw Sienna
Burnt Umber
Alizarin Crimson Hue
Light Red
Ultramarine
Cobalt Blue Hue
Yellow
And these are all Windsor and Newton Watercolours ^^~Β

emperpep In reply to Mikkie15 [2014-09-05 11:23:50 +0000 UTC]
Depends on color temperature in your picture [and your preference]
but for my favorite, Try diluting alizarin crimson into pink and use it for pinkish skin, or mix diluted alizarin crimson with yellow [what yellow?] to make orange skin tone,
then you can mix more saturated arizarin crimson with little amount of yellow for shade, light red is also nice for shading, but I recommend you to experiment with your colors more often so you could know how to mix and match them for best result.
ultramarine/cobalt blue, are also nice when mixing with alizarin crimson to make purple skin shade for blue/purple/violet atmosphere.

emperpep In reply to Mikkie15 [2014-09-05 14:10:30 +0000 UTC]
alright, it will be fine with alizarin crimson.
If you could buy more yellow in the future, try buying gamboge and yellow ochre too.Β

Your works are always beautifully done Q v Q however, I'm a bit curious, how do you keep your paper from warping when painting? Does it just not warp, or do you use tape?

185g paper will definitely curl alot if you use streaky wash technique on it

Thank you very much for this tutorial! Very helpful Your artworks are so pretty.
I have a few questions!
Have you ever tried using watercolor pencils? How do you feel about them? Do you think it would be easier for a beginner to start with watercolor pencils first, or does it not matter?
Thanks for the help, and thanks again for this amazing tutorial
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to Poncakes [2014-06-18 05:35:50 +0000 UTC]
According to my preference, watercolor pencils usually leave unpleasant pencil marks on the picture when diluted with water, and I feel like they aren't smooth enough compared to real watercolor, even with artist quality pencils like Caran Dache Supracolor or Faber castell Albretch-Durer.
I only used them for touch up with watercolor painting, and sometimes used them as dry media.

for the wet-on-wet, you first paint pure water on the highlight area and then use blue or yellow (on the shirts) to surround it?
When water painting, you don't wet the whole shirt or face, etc, right?
Thanks!

So what kind of transparent films do you use when you scan the picture? I hate it when my scanner makes unnecessary glares on pictures.
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to cmwriteart [2014-04-05 23:04:59 +0000 UTC]
I use 2 bluish tint transparency films, the blue is very, very light but I can determine it from old yellowish transparency film, my scanner is hp g4050 and I use windows xp just for scanning, scanning result is very bright so I need trasparency films to reduce brightness, They fixed this brightness problem in windows 7 and 8, but the color is really dull compared to xp and cant be fixed with color correction tools in art program.
and my painting still have glares when scanning if I color it with reflective ink such as black copic marker and such, transparency film cant fix this.

Hello. Sorry to be bothering you but I was curious to know if your lineart is in pencil or do you ink it after you pencil the desired drawing?
