Description My 2nd watercolor tutorial.

It might looks pretty long, because it's filled with many pictures to help you understand my process, instead of using a lot of texts.

Edit: Wet in Wet is : Adding wet colors on damp sheet of paper or an area of still-wet paint, and let them run out over the wet surface, giving soft-hazy effect

If you have any watercolor question, Feel free to ask me.

I only used pencil without inking.
But now I like using 4H-2H pencil instead of 2B,4B pencil, because my painting is likely to look cleaner.

Thank you very much for the info ^^ I'll try doing the same on my watercolor paintings ^^ I am a beginner and your art has inspired me a lot, so much that I saved your tumblr account on my google favorites and watch the drawing processes you photograph ^^ They are really helpful, and your "wet in wet" technique has saved me a bunch Β ^^ Thanks once again ^^

Make sure you ink your drawing with waterproof ink.

why when i paiting watercolor, the paper is really bent (sorry i'm not really good at Engish)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to HamoriNeko [2013-11-10 16:19:06 +0000 UTC]

If you use low gsm paper(190or lower), It will always bend if you add to much water all over the surface, Β try using at least 300g paper or strech your paper first, or avoid adding too much water on it.

Thank you so much..!!

Oh... so that's how..Q-Q

I's a bit tough... I think I'll continue my search for the 300gsm paper... Ahaha..~

Uhm.. one more thing..

How did your colours turn out so bright and clear..

Coz.. when my colours dry they look a bit dull...

Does it depends on the brands..?

or the colour to water ratio..?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to PuRpLekHoUkHa [2014-01-31 05:33:13 +0000 UTC]

Might I have the brand of watercolor you use?

Try using good quality watercolor, such as artist quality watercolor, or at least good student grade watercolor such as Cotman watercolor from Winsor&Newton or Vangogh watercolor from Talens

What pencil would you recommend for the drawing? I know you said a mechanical pencil but what type of led? Would HB be too soft? It seems like it would make your colors muddy when you added water to it.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to Jesness [2013-11-04 23:21:26 +0000 UTC]

I like using 0.5 2B and 4B lead, 0.7 is too big for me, and 0.3 breaks too easilyΒ

But this is just my preference, Just pick any tool you like most.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jesness In reply to emperpep [2013-11-05 16:52:59 +0000 UTC]

0.0; I didn't know you could use any kind of B led with watercolors. I would have thought the graphite would bleed into the colors. Thanks!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to Jesness [2013-11-05 17:28:57 +0000 UTC]

Try drawing with low hand pressure, If you draw the lines too thick, that might happen.

[Or use HB lead or H-2H-4H wood pencil.]

I can't get very good water colors, so do you have any advice for someone who works with Artists Loft watercolor? Or Reeves?

streikoneko In reply to ??? [2013-09-27 00:18:37 +0000 UTC]

This is beautifully done! But ah...what did you use for the lines? You said that you drew the rough sketch in pencil, but was the line art for the colored piece also done in pencil?

hello!Β

may i ask you Β , how do you make usually your outlines?Β

maybe with a black pen? oder just pencil? or maybe with colorful crayons?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

emperpep In reply to Polyanthum [2013-11-05 16:02:21 +0000 UTC]

normal outlines > pencil

colored outlines > colored pen, colored pencil, small brush and watercolor > depends on technique and situation.

Thank you, this is very useful!

Just one Question: How do you stop colours from running into one another when painting? all your colours seem so crisp! The only way I can fix this is by taking breaks after doing every section/layer to let the paint dry. Do you have any tips?
