Description
My 2nd watercolor tutorial. It might looks pretty long, because it's filled with many pictures to help you understand my process, instead of using a lot of texts.
Edit: Wet in Wet is : Adding wet colors on damp sheet of paper or an area of still-wet paint, and let them run out over the wet surface, giving soft-hazy effect
If you have any watercolor question, Feel free to ask me.

Do you stretch the watercolor paper beforehand? How do you make it so the paper doesn't crinkle?

I use 300g paper and it doesn't curl, I also don't stretch my paper.

It's like a very thick water-soluble white postercolor.

When you mean "pure water", do you mean just wet your brush and pain in the highlights, THEN colour over? Or?

um, I also have a question! do you think gel-pen would be ok if I used it on the eyes instead of paint? (this is my first time using watercolor, so i'm not good w/ small details....)

emperpep In reply to yuki-oneesan [2013-06-28 00:50:54 +0000 UTC]
you can test test your gel pen and paints on scrap paper first.

well, quick tip, don't use a black gel pen on the painting while it is wet... when it is dry, then its okay

Umm, I have a question, did you ink over the lines before painting or did you keep it the way it was? Because I'm bad with pens.

This is so nice, I want to try watercolouring next but I don't have enough watercolors to use... I have poster paints more. ._.
I don't get the "Using pure water first for highlights thingy." .. Does that mean you apply pure water first before applying the base color?

I wanna know how you managed to keep the background looking so clean - like, for me, when I do the wet on wet for a background I use a mask for the stuff I don't want to get paint on, but even then I wind up with a couple of tiny white spaces in between the masked image and the background. How d'you make yours so even/perfect? Serious question.

Bother my stupid question but, would a painting be possible with only 12 tube watercolors?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
emperpep In reply to Lizanottes [2013-04-25 10:59:55 +0000 UTC]
I only need 3 primary colors.

But having some more colors sounds good too. Because sometimes I'm too lazy to mix them myself.

Oh my gawsh your paintings are just so amazing!!
this tutorial is awesome I think it will help!
can I just ask, when you paint for example the base eye colour, do you wait for the paint to dry before you paint the next colour on top or do you just paint it on anyway??

Wow! Awesome and beautiful tutorial! But is there any way to get your paint brushes clean since sometimes colors get stuck on them and its really hard to wash off (other than just washing them with water. To me, that doesn't work as well.)? Thank you!

shocka123 In reply to harvestpupp [2013-05-24 01:17:48 +0000 UTC]
I know this is late but, if they're still on after cleaning with just clean water, you should get some soap (get something like dove because your brushes are like hair too!) and swirl it in there and then swirl it in your hands to get the pigments out. It's best to get brush cleaner as they're more suited for brushes than soaps/detergents that we use on our bodies because of the harsh chemicals in them.

Thank you so much! It's okay it's a late reply. That's very interesting! I'll try to try that next time. Just recently, though, a website had said to use extra vinegar oil since it has certain chemicals to remove the pigment. Think that works? Also, where do you usually find a brush cleaner?
Thank you for your reply! !

That, I have no clue about it but I do not think so. Just like hair, they can get damaged easily.
You can easily find brush cleaner in the art stores under the brush accesorries.
