It's amazing you took the time to do this very comprehensive series, even a long time user could benefit from reading it.
Awesome work!

This is the only tutorial I've found on Sytrus apart from a bare bones Image Line tutorial, and a bunch of Youtube videos that are all shallow and incomplete in their own ways. Great stuff!

Super sweet tutorial. I'm gonna use this to full effect. No need to shell out for Harmor now!

The irony being that I now use harmor instead of sytrus.

Eriks Sytrus manual is not outdated at all. It is a useful guide into any use of the synths in FL Studio. The basics explained by Erik are also useful in other synths in FL Studio like Harmor for example.

I converted this manual into a PDF, you find it here: [link] [3,36 MB (3 528 681 bytes)]. Converted with Eriks permission obviously. I used an OCR package but it was tedious to get things right so It took some time. Added an Index and Table of Contents.

Jens Malmgren

The only thing that would make this more awesome is if it had nice printer-friendly page breaks

Because this deserves the permanence of being printed up and bound!

Thanks a million for these tutorials, I thought I knew quite a bit about Sytrus but you're totally filling in all of the blanks and little things I missed along the along!! Imageline should hire you to update their manual!! The synth pack listed in Part 5 won't download for me however, the link goes to a site that appears to be down. If possible, could you send them to me in an email? homemusician@live.ca

Aw man, that's cool. This tutorial has been a life-saver regardless!! I'm on Part 7 right now . Just one question, I can't find the Envelope Pitch knob you refer to in the Arp Section. I've been searching and searching and checked Imageline's Forum but can't seem to find how to rescale the vertical grid for the Pitch Envelope to manipulate the avaialabe octaves. Is the knob located in Sytrus or in another area (i.e. General Settings for FL, etc)?

home-musician In reply to home-musician [2012-02-23 04:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, sorry, disregard that!! Found it, in my notes on the knob I shouldn't touch unless there's specific reason to Thanks again!

Holy piss! What an amazing tutorial. Thank you so much for this! Much better than the manual.
You mentioned that you don't use Sytrus anymore though, what do you use if I might ask?
Massive like everyone else seems to have switched to?

ErikMcClure In reply to elaborate [2011-04-30 22:45:58 +0000 UTC]

z3ta+ and Ogun

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OSKRock00 In reply to ErikMcClure [2011-12-13 21:29:48 +0000 UTC]

Why did you switch? Those two are less capable than Sytrus, although simpler.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikMcClure In reply to OSKRock00 [2011-12-14 14:51:16 +0000 UTC]

Both are more powerful in different ways. You cannot get the harmonic richness of Ogun in Sytrus, and z3ta+ has lots of distortion and other effects you can't get in Sytrus. Both tend to output higher quality synths than Sytrus. I also use Harmor now too.

Much gratitude! I have been making music with fl for some time now, but allways found myself relaying on premade presets and nexus to make it sound good. You just opened up a whole new world for me, thanks a lot! and to think that i allways thought of sytrus as something bad that only would produce dull sounds. great work! hail to you!

Wow I didn't even imagine this tutorial would be so popular. I'm starting to seriously consider making a sequel to this tutorial, since its been over a year since I wrote this and I've learned quite a lot.

Thanks

OH AWESOME. This is certainly going to help when I get around to trying Sytrus! I initially stayed away from this plugin become it just looked menacing and overly complex. But dayum, you wrote a whole tutorial on this!? It really is absurdly gigantic and professional! How long did it take to do all of this, and how long have you been using Sytrus to know it so well?

Anyway, this might just get me started on using Sytrus. Great stuff! Thank you very much!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikMcClure In reply to flashygoodness [2008-10-26 10:16:38 +0000 UTC]

Well I wrote this tutorial about 6 months ago, and at the time I'd been using sytrus for well over a year. As I recall it took about 6 weeks to finish the entire tutorial xD

I've gotten better at making synths (you can tell from any of my more recent songs) but that's just practice. Good luck!

flashygoodness In reply to ErikMcClure [2008-10-26 19:55:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh dang. You had only been using Sytrus for a year? Wow. And that's so amazing, for you to have accomplished all this in your spare time!

Anyway, thanks!
