Description
layout order for Strat on HL
all done, hope you like it!

this one was another order, made especially for strat. she's been such an awesome buddy, the least i could do was make her a nice manip she wanted in a very short timeframe. hope you like it! she wanted the horse to look scared of the storm, and in the stock photo the horse was just walking through the water happily, like it didn't have a care in the world, and i was like 'mmk, that's gotta change' haha. so, i opened to mouth (first attempt! ) to give him a frightened look, and raised the head and neck a bit as well. i added more splashes around his legs as well to give the frightened impression.

favourite part: tail, sky, waves/splashes
least favourite part: mane
hardest parts: mane/tail, the blending of the original water into the new water, getting the sky right.
layers: 52 active layers
tools used: wacom bamboo tablet, photoshop cs4 extended

what was done...
painted new eye
painted new mane/tail
repositioned horse neck and head
opened horse mouth
blended 8 images together to make the BG
added quite a few waves and splashes
outlined horse
added a Photoshop Action over the whole thing when i'd finished, to give it that yellowish tone you see.

STOCK PROVIDERS
thanks, guys!

THIS IS NOT STOCK, IT IS NOT A FREEBIE, YOU ARE NOT USING IT, AND DON'T BOTHER ASKING BECAUSE I'LL SAY NO. IF I CATCH YOU USING THIS ON A ROLEPLAY SITE OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. AND EAT YOU.

Sorry for the late-ish reply - I use Photoshop CS5 Extended.

how do you reposition the horses head and neck?

It's usually a process of lots of warping and 'liquifying'.

So, if i wanted to move the head up a bit (like in this manip), I'd make sure I always saved the manip straight away before i did this, haha. Then, I'd use the Lasso tool to select the head (with a bit of the neck) and Cut it onto a new layer. It's then really just a matter of fiddling round with Warping and the Liquify Filter, to get the look you want.

lol when you outline your horses do you outline, them when you put them onto the BG or after you cut it out?lol! and i love the pic

to do the outline, i wait until the manip is pretty much done, and then i get a 2px hard, high opacity round brush and zoom in a fair bit to outline the horse entirely. I then get an soft, large Eraser on 20% opacity and gradually erase/fade some of the outlining, since if the entire horse was outlined, that would just look odd, haha.

erraticstudios In reply to migrates [2010-08-06 00:52:13 +0000 UTC]

PS Cs5 is tricky to learn, it took me about a year to learn Photoshop itself, and then CS5 was released and i had to learn all of the new features, haha. It probbaly won't take you a year to learn it - i was just completely self-taught, i used no tutorials or help sites, i just learned via exploring the program and experimenting, haha.

the only issue is that there ar no dodge or burn tools.. and the lighting can be hard to work with and change

erraticstudios In reply to Lynelle13 [2010-07-19 22:38:52 +0000 UTC]
