Description
I made this around July-August last year some time....I've never really been all that great at drawing or painting realistically, so I wanted to try and improve myself. I printed out a portrait photograph and drew a grid up on it, and planned on drawing the person again piece by piece, to teach myself a little more about the proportions of the human face.
Somehow the print out got wet and the ink ran, and I got frustrated and thought "What the hell!" and started painting on top of it with a wet brush. I also used some ink on a few of the random squares.... and then tore into the work slightly giving the paper that 'hairy' look.
This was the end result. It seems no matter what I do, I can never escape the abstract

This is great. I love how unplanned it was, and how you just let yourself "go with the flow" on this kind of work. To me, this feels like art at its purest form... when it just appears, out of nowhere and make yu go somewhere you didn't think you would go.
Great work, very inspiring !

I like what you have done here....experimenting with something gone wrong into something right. A lot of times thats what makes great abstracting paintings....the accidental masterpiece. I feel the grid is what is really strong about this piece..in sense it shows great balance through the imbalance and decay of the paper. I think the paper is a great medium to experiment with and you were very successful with it. I like how there a few squares that are almost dark black .. if they weren't there I think you would get lost in the in the grays and whites. The smooth and almost surreal texture from the watered paper being hit by the hard edge texture and tears is extremely captivating. I just think you should show the outside edges of the torn paper rather then cuing them off in the picture.

Oh well. Made a very nice effect. You've got some cool textures and patterns there. That grid method never worked for me
