Although it was Evans idea, I still see some (little) diffrences between "Eggman's" mind control device and the one from issue 1. So there are actually even 3 versions of it in this comic.
Who knows, maybe they got the idea for Shadows mind control device for Sonic Boom from Evan ('s comic) ?

I get the feeling that in the past in this issue Nicole is going to show up and psychotically kill Rouge and the others, take Shadow, remove Sonic from Shadow, and leave Sonic to see the horrors that have awaken.

Shadow was also under Nicole's mind control in that scene-- basically he's been under her sway since him and Sonic were captured in Issue 9. Between the scene in the apartment and now, he's probably just been on standby on the couch there, waiting for orders.
