Description
This is a design sheet for Sunny Flare as they appear in my Equestria Girls fan-fiction series I am working on. It's still a work in progress and is subject to changes and revision, and I will be releasing bits and pieces of information with each entry before I move onto the real thing. You can read more about what I have so far by following the links listed at the bottom of the image description, and it's recommended to read them in order. They are members of a secret global organization known as the Technological Consortium, which has been safeguarding Humanity from various magical, supernatural and technological threats for centuries.
THE FAN-SERIES
I am in the process of writing a road-map and world building for a fan-fiction series of Equestria Girls. Basically, I am writing it like a television series which acts as a sequel to where the original left off, made-up of 2 series', comprised of 5 seasons each, and each season consisting of at least 26 episodes, with a movie serving as the finale. It will be written in the style and tone of the actual show. It's basically what I would do if I was the writer for the actual Equestria Girls series. I do not actually plan on writing full episodes, as that would take too much time and effort, but I may produce a few scripts for some episodes. Instead I write my fan-series in an episodic, synopsis style which details events.
BACKSTORY
Sunny Flare is the daughter of Abacus Cinch, and was born into a rich and influential family, and attends Crystal Prep Academy just like her mother. She has been raised to strive to be truly exceptional, to earn everything, and to reject charity, both accepting nothing from others and giving nothing in turn, which tends to make her look like a huge Snob. To enforce this, her Mother only allows her Daughter an allowance if she can fulfil periodic tasks and goals, as a way of earning that allowance.
PERSONALITY
Being born into wealth, Sunny Flare comports herself with class and sophistication for the most part, and cares a great deal about maintaining appearances. She loves showing people how exceptional she is, although she is smart enough to avoid doing so in an obnoxious "nobody asked" kind of way. She can be quite mean towards her rivals and enemies, as well as to anyone who disrespects her, her friends or her family, and especially towards fools and free-loaders. She was raised to never accept help and to earn everything through personal effort, and is aware of the irony that she was born into a wealthy family, something which can really get her riled up when people mention it. She does however, respect hard work and exceptional-ism, a side-effect of her strict upbringing by her mother. I decided to make Sunny Flare averse to charity as a way of contrasting her with Rarity, whose Element is Generosity, this is because Sunny Flare was intended to be Rarity's opposite, whom is also her rival.
CASUAL ATTIRE
How Sunny Flare prefers to dress when off-duty. She prefers vibrant colours and elegant design.
BASE UNIFORM
The standard uniform of Consortium members when stationed within one of their bases.
OPERATIONS
Operatives typically wear something like this when on a mission that does not involve being in disguise or hiding in plain sight. The insignia on the left arm signifies the operatives speciality and role, and in Sunny Flares case, she takes on a leadership role, and it is her duty to coordinate her team on their missions, oversee operations, formulate strategies and execute the will of her superiors, usually through her trusty wrist-computer. She typically coordinates the most with her second in command Sunset Shimmer, who she relies on to maintain her teams communications technology.
CLASS: LEADERSHIP
The Leadership class, or just referred to as Leaders, are a class of operative who excel at leading others, and are trained specifically to organize missions, coordinate operations, formulate strategies and tactics and are conditioned to hold themselves to a high level of moral and ethical standards for the purpose of decision making for the good of the mission, using logic and rationalization to reach conclusions on what is and isn't the right thing to do. Many underestimate the stress and burden of a Leader, for heavy is the head that bares the crown of leadership, hence the need to train an entire Leader class specifically for the role.
VIRTUE: WISDOM
In Season 4, 10 members of the Consortium gain "Virtues", which are the Consortium's versions of the Elements of Harmony, which they will use to help the Rainbooms defeat a powerful Enemy at the end of Season 4. Sunny's Virtue is Wisdom, granting her magical power derived from her belief that the gathering of experience is a path to enlightenment, and its application in guiding and helping others.
IN THE FAN-SERIES
In my fan-series, she works as part of a team made up of Sunny Flare, Sunset Shimmer(Human), Sour Sweet, Indigo Zap, Vinyl Scratch, Starlight Glimmer and Moondancer. Although she and her second in command Human Shimmer respect each other for their roles, Human Shimmer resents Sunny Flare because of the advantages she had when getting to her current position. There is also a contrast between Human Shimmer, who was an Orphan who had nothing and had to work for everything she had, and Sunny Flare, who was born into wealth and was given advantages.
Sunny Flare is the Rich Girl archetype and daughter of Abacus Cinch, Cinch being a high ranking officer within the secretive organization - The Technological Consortium. Between her natural talent, meticulous preparation and with her mothers encouragement, she distinguished herself enough to be inducted into the Consortium and eventually offered an opportunity to prove herself which lead to her being given leadership of her own team of young operatives.
Typical Sunny Flare episodes revolve around her antagonizing her rival – Rarity, trying to prove herself over others, dealing with her Mothers tasks or going on missions with her team-mates.
THE TECHNOLOGICAL CONSORTIUM
The primary recurring antagonists of Series 1, turned Allies in series 2, with a strong presence in every season. The Technological Consortium, or just "The Consortium" for short, is a secret global organization which runs most of what goes on in the world from behind the scenes. They investigate, hunt, and police the mystical and supernatural elements of the world, but they also deal with other threats like Rogue Scientists, AI's, Super Villains, Aliens, dangerous technology and other dangerous elements and natural or unnatural, disasters. Think of the Consortium as a combination of The Men in Black, the SCP Foundation and the Technocratic Union from Mage: The Ascension. Members are often referred to as "Techs" by outsiders, such as the Rainbooms.
The Technological Consortium is lead by it's supreme and enigmatic leader, from a position known as "The Supreme Scientist", who is said to always be the most intelligent and wise Person of their time.
You can read about the Technological Consortium here.

In my series, the Consortium will frequently be at odds with the Rainbooms and Equestria, who they see as rogue elements and potential threats. The Consortium has been watching the Rainbooms for quite some time, and have been assisting them from behind the scenes in hopes that the Equestrian problem will resolve itself, while taking steps to perform damage control or commit resources to backup plans should the Rainbooms fail. For example, they were prepared to step in during the initial Sunset Shimmer and Midnight Sparkle incidents before those things resolved themselves. Sometimes their assistance was absolutely necessary, such as during the Sirens incident, where they sent one of their young operatives, Vinyl Scratch, to free the Rainbooms and provide them with aid against The Dazzlings. Did you think Vinyl Scratch just so happened to show up with a giant transforming sound-stage equipped car...?

Admittedly I'm not too big a fan of the "Sunny is Cinch's daughter" concept (I just can't see Cinch taking the time from her work to have a child), but then again, hey we *are* talking about an AU and all, so whatever floats your boat.
I do really like that Sunny appears to be the leader of this group of Tech agents. Considering how little time she gets in canon (I mean, what, she's had six lines at most across Friendship Games and Dance Magic?), I'm sure the extra focus is appreciated by her

Yes, she didn't get much focus or characterization in her appearances. She had no real defining qualities, so I decided to try and fix that. Even Lemon Zest, who had one line in her first appearance, had a more distinct personality in that particular movie/special.

True. Between Indigo's "ooh-rah" attitude, Sour Sweet's faux-sweetness, Sugarcoat's bluntness, and Lemon's "hey yah gotta listen to this," poor Sunny Flare was just left in the lurch. I'm definitely interested to see what more you have in mind for further characterizing the rest of the Shadow Five.
