Description
My very first Bryce Project! I'm having so much fun learning this wonderful new piece of software! It's a much-needed break away from GIMP. It's nothing special, but I just felt like sharing.Art

Hey, deathtree. Thanks for the comments. Unfortunately, it appears that the entire site where the tutorial was located has disappeared from the web. It was here: [link] Try checking that link for the next couple of days and see if it comes back, but I don't think it will. If it doesn't, I'll try to write one up, but it will be after the holidays. Is that ok?
Take care and thanks for the fave!

I'll bet you could. If I can do it, you can! Following a tutorial is easy. It's creating something without one, where I have trouble. Thanks for commenting.
Take care.

Yeah, that part got me at first. You must move your cursor to the very top left of your monitori (not the top of the Bryce window) and the standard menus (file, edit, etc.) will appear. Then you can close and save from there. To close, you can also hit Ctrl+Q.

aha.. yes. its going to take me a while to get use to the program. i don't know how to make characters though. i'm clueless so i'm going to read on some tutorials. lol

Well, Bryce isn't a "regular" 3D modeling program like Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D etc. It's really made for landscapes, but you can import things from other 3D programs to use in Bryce. If you're looking to model actual characters, you may need something else. Anim8or is a good free one that I've played with ([link] ) art of illusion is a free java-based 3D modeler ([link] ) I think both are good tools and might be of interest to you as well.

oh im really sure that you can do this in bryce, but i could not rembember how you can do this, because im not a bryce user ; i prefer 3dsmax or maya ; but i also tried bryce some years ago. hhmm *remember* try to edit your shaders preferences - > there must be an option so that you can edit your shader parameteres (diffuse, reflections, specular, and many more)

Hee, Hee I already have something that does the same thing as Bryce. I wasn't sure exactly what Bryce did so I wasn't postitive. But my daughter told me that My Blender Program will do the same type of things. Also If I get another free program called Terragen I can make terrain easier. But I can also do that in Blender. So I don't need Bryce just need to practice my Blender. You should get Blender it will go on Windwos. I have it there and on my linux (it comes in the packages in synaptic in linux) and my datugher puts it on all her computers. It is a great 3-D program. Works great with Gimp. I don't have any programs I bought so I don't know a lot about them just what I read. But I love my GNU Licensed programs. They are great. GIMP is GNU. So If your Bryce doesn't last or you are curious get Blender.

I had Blender once, but it Scared me! O_o! I've thought about getting it again, but It'll probably be awhile as I'm having too much fun with this. I've seen Terragen stuff and it's incredible as well. The one thing I do like about this is I can use my renders in stereograms as Bryce will let you create a depth map, which is what represents the hidden image. I know Blender does it and Terragen probably does too, but I'm on a roll with this one!
Glad you've got something you can use. Hope to see some of your creations soon!

I tried to put Bryce on my windwos partition but I can't find the serial number it wants me to give. It wasn't in the e-mail I got that confirmed my registration so where is it. I can't get mine to start without it. Or did I do something weird. I don't go in windows much so I could have. Did you get a serial number with your free Bryce and if you did where did you get it?

When you install it, Bryce should try and connect to DAZ. When it does, you will be given a serial number which you can copy/paste into the designated location. Let me know if you still have problems.

It is probably my windows partition. I don't go there much and keep it fixed up so it doesn't always work too well. But it never worked too well when I did. I am sorry I shouldn't bash Windows it was my first operating system. There are a few things to like about it. Now if I can only think what those are. Don't shoot me. I am being naughty.

I going to check with my daughter. She is the queen of free. She will know if there is another one comparable to bryce. I am not sure but, I many already have the other one I am thinking of on my windows partition. I should check. I like your orb though. But I hope you aren't going to stop makiing gimp tutorials cause you got interested in this. If so WAH!
I'll actually survive. I have so many tutorials to go though now I should be busy for awhile. Hee, Hee.

None taken I guess I do get a bit zealous about it though. So I suppose that is why you felt I was taking offense. I wasn't really. My thoughts were not hostile at all. I just have to be more careful how I express myself I suppose.

Thanks! Well, if you don't have the other program, check Bryce out....you've got until Sept. 20th.
As far as GIMP....nah, I'll never stop with that! I just need a break. I'm trying to figure out ways to utilize Bryce and GIMP together. This should be a LOT of FUN!

Ohh that would be interesting. Is the Bryce one of those that they only let you use for a short time or is it free forever. I hate it when the time runs out and you can't use the program anymore. Had that happen once cause I didn't read all of the info. Did you read all the gobblety goop that told about the terms of use. If not you might get the same surprise I got once. But I hope not cause that is annoying. That is why I hope there is a GNU program that is comparable. Cause I know they won't cut me off so I will buy them. That is the only reason I don't bother to get such things Where is the site you got it. I am curious if they are temporary or permanent. I guess I could read thier terms of use statement and see.
Have fun

Yes, Blender is not only free, it's open source as well. It's a bit daunting, even those experienced in 3D say so, but it does produce remarkable work.

Blender has a learning curve but it is a powerful program. If you are diligent with learning it you can do things along the lines of Pixar. It's interface could use a bit of fixing to be more user friendly but I don't see that happening soon. But I still love what it can do. Most people take one look at it and say ewwww...that looks scary. It is but it is worth the freight.
