Description
This week's hybrid is more of a quadruped bird, counterparts of which are tawny frogmouth and koala. Latin names of these animals were used for this new creature's name. "Cinereus" comes from koala's name "Phascolarctos cinereus" and means grey, while "pod" means foot and comes from "podargus" (swift-footed) name of frogmouth bird genus. The result is a name that means grey-footed, highlighting a feature that can be seen on the hybrid. These grey paws are the most obvious connection to koalas in the design so largely based on tawny frogmouth birds.

Tawny frogmouth birds were on my mind as a visually interesting animal for quite some time. Their patterned feathering was an interesting challenge for me to draw.

Cineripods are nocturnal forest creatures that are notable for their ability to blend in with their surroundings in a similar manner as frogmouths. While their camouflage isn't as effective due to the beak and paw coloration, it allows them to stay unseen in many circumstances.

Cineripods have insect-based diet and they catch their prey by jumping from tree to tree. They rarely fly and can't sustain flight for a long period of time, but it hardly has any negative effects on their active lifestyle - good climbing abilities prove to be far more useful for them.

Cineripods form partnerships for life and are known to care about their hatchlings (one or two at a time), which climb on their parent's back when they are grown enough. There they can become accustomed to their surroundings and learn from the parents' behavior.
