Description
My three coyote pelts. From left to right: Kestrel, my new coyote, and Kyoht.Kestrel's guard hairs are thin and flexible which makes her coat very soft. My new coyote has lots of nice, stiff guard hairs covering a thick layer of underfur and has a rather flashy tail too.
Kyoht was my first coyote as well as my first pelt. He's been all over the place and has gone through so much with me. His fur and tail never were particularly striking but the wear from all the lovings that he's received over the six years I've had him does show.
Kyoht and Kestrel from a taxidermist
New coyote found as roadkill and skinned and tanned by me
Disclaimer: I did not kill these animals! If you do not like what you see, don't look at it! Also, don't bother wasting your time leaving rude or pointless comments here, they will be ignored.

that's a very nicely tanned pelt on a beautiful coyote. Do you ever sell them your tans?

Thank you! So much work goes into each pelt that I tan plus when I put that much effort into the process, I get pretty attached so no, I have not as of yet sold any pelts that I tanned.

good to know, you do a very good job, either way I've got a fair collection myself, but don't have the time or resources to tan them myself, so I'm always on the lookout for people like you who do a quality, respectful job of it.

Oh, noooo... I'd never purposely leave off the legs while skinning something.

Coyotes belong in the woods, or safely in a zoo....NOT skinned in someone's front yard.

Yes, I did actually. Even if you didn't kill them it's still cruel just to have their skins.

How can it be cruel if they don't feel anything?

LoveDelusion In reply to Jillianimal [2010-01-25 21:20:02 +0000 UTC]
Because...it's supporting the killing of them. Just like I don't support the skinning of rabbits and foxes..thus I would not wear a fur coat.

Jillianimal In reply to LoveDelusion [2010-01-25 22:13:14 +0000 UTC]
She's not supporting it. One of them was roadkill & the other 2 were from taxidermists, most of who don't go & kill but usually just find them as roadkill. If they were killed just for this, I would definitely be against it, just as I am against fur coats.

And no name yet. I have sat through two multi hour name hunts for her but have turned up nothing suitable so far.

I'm sure it'll come to you Another bird name, like Kestrels?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
FossilFeather In reply to Featherologist [2009-12-04 17:56:47 +0000 UTC]
I'd really like for it to be another bird name but I've searched through my North American bird books and couldn't find anything suitable. I just learned about the names "chaffinch" and "brambling" so I now know there are more bird names out there. I'm just not familiar with them since they're not in my country!
If she was male, I'd have considered "Merlin" since it seems to be another name for a kestrel. It would have been perfect.

Kite?
I'm not sure if you have them. You can get black kites and red kites, red kites are fairly common around here and are stunning birds
I can note you a list of pretty British bird names if you like
Merlin is gorgeous.... Reserve it for your next male yote!

I've considered that one, it just sounds too airy or something. At least for her.
Definitely yes to that list of names! I really love the British names for things anyway so I know looking through it will be quite enjoyable for me. Thank you so much for offering.
And I will!

Goodness, I feel like such a comment hound with your recent pictures, but I honestly can't help myself. They each hold such personality... they look comfortable how they're laying there now; it's as if she's their new little addition to the family and they're looking after her. They're all gorgeous, you're lucky that you have them! Or, perhaps you're lucky that they found you. x3
