Description
Arthropod which travels in colonies and takes down prey by swarming over it and cooking it alive with heat generated by rubbing the sections of its hind section together very rapidly. as such, it has a high heat tolerance. No, I didn't give it antennae. I don't know why. It's not all that important, it probably would have them.
Had the idea for a while. Illustration done today while waiting for a friend to get online. Dunno how long.
Scientific name (not shown) means ant mimic from hell. I think.

Neat! Reminds me of Call of Cthulhu's Fireworm of Parg ([link] ).
You're getting a better sense of volume and three-dimensionality with your digital paintings, I think. I especially like the highlights along the dorsal surfaces.

I am unfortunately largely unfamiliar with most things related to the Cthulhu mythos.
Yeah, I seem to have hit upon a technique that works quite well for me with this painiting.

Whoa, that's a pretty interesting ability! It makes me think of piranha (sp?) with how they all work together to take down prey.

Yeah it is. Wish I'd come up with it myself.
Got the idea from a documentary on National geographic, I think it was. Course, those animals don't use it to hunt.

But still, it's all kinds of epic!
