If there's one kind of Sonic Discussion meme that I've seen a lot here on DA, is how people ignorantly claim that everyone goes up in arms when Sonic has more mature tone. Let me just say that the reason as to why fans disliked Shadow and 06 so much in terms of story wasn't so much the concept of a darker story, but rather how it was executed. You see with SA2, that's where the series started to go down the dark path. But here's the thing, SA2 at least had better execution. Sure, there was a lot of plot holes, and the acting overall can be a little hokey. But at least the characters were what they were supposed to be, entertaining, and streamlined. Shadow and 06 failed because with the former, Shadow was turned into the very thing that people today mock him for,(An Edgy Recolor) It wasn't entertaining aside from the occasional joke, and the overall plot was a fucking mess no thanks to the games good and evil structure. The ladder on the other hand was just as bad because it made characters like Sonic and Silver look like idiots, and fucked up Blaze's overall continuity. The time travel properties had no rules whatsoever,(creating major plot holes) And there was no fun to be had whatsoever. So again, I must stress that it's not so much the concept, but the execution. Fans complained about Shadow and 06 in terms of story because they were objectively bad to both the Sonic lore and even just in general.

If you like these games in terms of story, at least open your eyes and try to understand where Jacobsonic84, Dannymax440, Clementj642, Somecallmejohnny, and I are coming from.
