Description Sorry for using the same filters so much, it might be getting repetitive. Anyways, the piece definately implies movement, not to mention that these are railroad tracks after all. I think the filter on the sky is a bit too much, but overall it's not a bad looking piece of art. Hope you like it

Well everybody has their own opinion and I am no exception. I like the image. It really caught my eye. Something about it being tracks leading off into a distant unknown kind of says mysterious to me. And I think mysterious plays better in black and white. My 2 cents. Its a great pic though.

Perhaps, I dunno, some things look good in black and white, but I usually don't do it with my nature pics for some reason. I usually make my pics black and white when the colors aren't very attractive to begin with.

oh..this is a really interesting play with perspective. reminds me of all those hours spent practicing central perspective in arts and drawing classes, but with a new fun twist to it.

it would be lovely to capture the train in motion. Don't you think so?

I do, in fact I just missed one about a minute too late. Unfortunately at this time I really sucked with the f stop and tbh, I didn't really figure it out until now lol. I feel like a moron, but eh, better I know now than later.

I think for the feeling of this image, the filters are okay. I think it fits. And the angle is good, and the clarity is excellent.

I disagree. I feel tha the perspective (awesome) AND the filters worked perfectly. The clouds stand out really cool.

Jayster550 [2006-10-06 00:56:27 +0000 UTC]

Perspective is nice, the filters are getting fairly annoying if you ask me, but then again, I never liked from the begining... lol

It would have been better if you had someone walking down the tracks or a train going and showing motion, but your 3200 of a second speed doesn't show movement, it stops it.

Bring the f/stop up insted of jacking up the shutter speed, also, if you ask me, the tree edges look a little sharp.

You don't need actual movement in a composition to imply movement, implying movement is just a matter of your eyes being led to a certain point in the piece. It probably is a little bit oversharpened, but eh, don't care that much because it isn't rediculously oversharpened.

I'm going to get a polarizer in the future so I won't have a lot of problems with overexposing the sky. It's a rather old photo anyways.

Jayster550 In reply to Genesis-Orbit [2006-10-06 01:11:06 +0000 UTC]

I understand that, but implying that movement though actuall movement would have helped this piece reach that extra mile if you know what I mean.

Polerizers are good, but you need to invest in a circular polerizer, and in a lens that doesn't focus by the ring at the end of the lens (where the front element is) cause the polerizer will spin and you won't get the right effect, I learned that the hard way with my 18-55mm and 55-200mm.

Genesis-Orbit In reply to Jayster550 [2006-10-06 02:32:41 +0000 UTC]

Also, if I'm going to be using the polarizer, it's most likely going to be for landscapes or some scene where no or little movement is going on; I'm usually not in a big rush to get the photo in a seconds notice you know?

Jayster550 In reply to Genesis-Orbit [2006-10-06 10:58:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I guess you have a different way of going about it.

for the things I shoot, there is no time to play with stuff, so I've gotta get it asap.

Genesis-Orbit In reply to Jayster550 [2006-10-06 18:19:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah ic, each to it's own I guess

Genesis-Orbit In reply to Jayster550 [2006-10-06 02:22:22 +0000 UTC]

Aren't all lenses like that where they focus ring is at the end though? And what does it matter if the polarizer is the same thing all the way around?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jayster550 In reply to Genesis-Orbit [2006-10-06 10:57:50 +0000 UTC]

No, for instance, my 50mm is a fixed lens, and it focuses right before where you place the filters, it has a seperate focus ring.

And a normal polerizer will make the whole scene underexposed by 2 stops, where as a circular one you can rotate to just make the sky underexposed.

Genesis-Orbit In reply to Jayster550 [2006-10-06 15:50:09 +0000 UTC]

Ok, then I'm probably gonna get a circular polarizer
