Description As I promised to some of the people here, I'm releasing the first tutorial here.

This is the tutorial for how to do soft cell shading on Photoshop, based on my experience.

The version of Photoshop used in the tutorial is 6. If you use later versions, names of tools/modes and/or allocation of shortcut keys might be different.
I'm working on Windows, so if you use Mac please change these notations as: Ctrl to Command, Alt to Option.

I just hope it helps you.

I'm about to buy a new tablet, and i was wondering if you could maybe suggest a good brand that i could use... (If's it's not too much trouble) and is less than or at about $300.

Try an entry model like WACOM favo first, if you haven't used one.

Awesome tut! ^-^ It is simpler and more effective than the thousands-of-layers method I use.

I tried the grouping thing for the shading layer and it didn't work

The shortcut has been changed between PS7 and CS. On CS and later, it's Ctrl-Alt-G and the name of the function is "Create clipping mask".
Use Ctrl-Alt-G for creating clipping mask on CS and later instead of Ctrl-G.

I think its better to have the basecolor layer inside a layer set split over several layers to make it easier to modify.

what do you mean by using
stroke with the brush to make the line
art different colours? i can't figure out
what you mean? how exactly do you
do that?

I don't comment as often as I should. However, I had to tell you that your tutorial is fantastic. It has helped me in a way that no other tutorial ever has.
I'm flabbergasted by what I've been able to do using your tutorial(s), especially since I never thought I could do anything cool like cell-shading. So... keep up the good work, and thanks so much.
