Description
Brrr...First painting of '09, still trying to get the hang of how layers work differently in acrylics than in watercolours.

no it's my knee-jerk reaction to how cute this picture is
it reminds me of hagrid or the dwarf from LOTR
if you get those references

You did a very good work! ^_^
Is it very different the acrylic and watercolour?

Yes, but you can use acrylic like watercolour.

It's during unusually cold spells (like the one that caused some snow to land on Britain a couple of weeks ago, which naturally reduced the majority of Britons to gibbering simpletons convinced that some sort of unexpectedly nippy Judgement Day had arrived) that the shirtless leathery look proves to be somewhat misguided - even, it seems, for blokes as hardy as Myrmidon. I shall have to draw him a woolly jumper. With a bloody axe motif across the chest, natch.
I actually start to get chilly just looking at this - the backdrop feels properly icy, and contrasts strongly against the convincingly shiny redness of poor old Myrmidon's nose, ears and forehead. He's going to need some industrial-strength Lemsip in the morning.

The only problem with that proposition is that he'd have trouble finding a jacket that fits.

With watercolors you would tend to work from light to dark . Whereas with acrylics you might want to try going from dark ( or at least mid tones ) to light. I basically learnt acrylics looking closely at the comic art of Greg Staples, Simon Bizley and Glen Fabry. The latter has a great how to book out which is worth a look. [link]

Thanks man.
I should give it a try. It's going to be weird to go back on what I've been used to all this time.

Yeah but you can still apply that watercolour style of painting to the underpainting. Then just paint thicker on top of that. That's more or less what Glen Fabry does and he's gotta be one of the best acrylic painters in the comic industry.

You really got the 'cold' feeling down with all the cool colors! Great job!
BTW: Have you ever tried 'Dwarf Fortress'?

I couldn't, but there's always something I learn, so I just try to get better at it.

We havent seen this little charmer in awhile. I wonΒ΄t make myself look like a fool by saying something about tecnique here but it does have a "cold feeling" to it if you get my meaning.
Inspired by the current weather perhaps?
