Nothing more kickass than a group of orcs/ogres with huge hammers.

Only thing would be a dwarf with a hammer just as huge.

I really like these guys. Ogres are cool whatever the occasion, of course, but when I look at this pic it puts me humorously in mind of some sort of TV commercial (or a promotional crystal ball etherweb broadcast, if you prefer).

"Tired of that boring old chimney stack? Having trouble sacking that fortress? Fed up of that cretin next door with the drum kit? Then call THE WRECKING CREW! Professional, indiscreet and 100 per cent effective. Call now, and don't even think about quibbling over the bill if you like having legs that work properly."

Masterful colouring work, by the way - there's a great sense of depth to the pic, and the toothy trio have a real solidity about them. Fab stuff!

As some people have already noticed, your lighting has improved! It's clear which character is the focus because of the way the other two frame him.

I like the detail on the hammer/mallet/object of violence. The ability to do this with watercolors is simply badass.

The only little thing I noticed is that the central character's ear seems a little large for his head, but that could be a trait you put in on purpose, so...

All in all, nice work! You're really learning and developing your style.

Yeah, the ear was a conscious decision, though I do see your point.

I know you were concerned about acheiving the darker values- Looks like you managed to pull it off quite well! I enjoy the under-lighting, it gives us a monumental effect. Excellent Work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GH-MoNGo In reply to nydwyngreendragon [2008-10-24 22:19:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Getting the dark values as dark as they are here took a lot of layers of staining pigments on top of each other. That's what took the longest amount of time. Glad I was able to get them dark enough!
