Oh and before I forget, it's not too dark and the sky is good, if a bit textured. Though that is probably due to the media, since I don't think you'd do it deliberately.

It's the pigment that I used; Ultramarine (PB29) granulates in washes.

I think a darker BG would have put more energy in the figures but I like the lighting on them.

I think the contrast would help to focus the image and give more prominence to the foreground. Of course it's easy for me to say since I'm too lazy to do backgrounds but when you use traditional media you can't play around with it the way you can with digital. Even so, I really like how you arranged and lit the subject.
