Description Layers and masks are the most basic and well known things for advanced CG makers. Still they give a lot of trouble for people who are just getin started with using programs for digital drawings. I tried to explain in the simpliest way masks and layers here and i hope that everyone who do not know about them will understand <3

you should heck layer window if you have them then i guess we do XD
every version including 7 and above has masks as i know.

Depends on which photoshop version you have. I don't think the earlier ones have layer masks =/ Not exactly sure though.

i use cs2 but as far as i know 6 had them too (used em so they didXD )
seriously who use old psp versions these days ? D: below 5? D: i have not met anyone like that so far XD;
if someone does, it's time to use isohunt power and get newest version XD

i did this tut motly because a lot of people noted me, asked me what layers', especially masks were. i did it so the next time i just can give someone a link XD <3

can you still see the lineart even if you didn't draw it in photoshop? if you drew it by hand and scanned it in.

you must set lineart as the multiply one or i posted somewhere tutorial about traditional lineart vs cg or smthing XD; how to get rid of the white bg.
search in gall everything is explained there

I usually use layer masks when shading pictures (so the shading color doesn't stray outside the area that's supposed to be colored), but I never thought about using masks that way! Thanks for the tutorial; I learned something new.
