oh, I'd recommend those books to anyone - Peake's such a human and absorbing writer.
At least if you're like me, and are happy to be drowned in endless, unhurried description.
And yes, her hair's pretty notable - a wild black mane that Peake says hangs "like a pirates' flag" down her back.

the first time i read the trilogy, fuschia was easily my favourite character ..

She's easy to love, I think... That passage about her and her attic, when we first see the place, is easily among my favourite passages in fiction.
I was so heartbroken after both she and Steerpike died that I couldn't bring myself to read the third book for ages...
