I've been meaning to do a wing study for a LONG time now. A really, REALLY long time. So I decided to take a few minutes to sketch out a couple of wings really quickly. The first two, along the left side of the image from bottom to top, were sketched in pencil and reemphasized with brush-tip pen. The topmost was a very quick intuitive thing with just that pen.

The RD without a face was a test of what I thought I had learned about wings from those three drawings, and I think it's significantly better than MOST of the wings I draw, but could still use a lot of improvement. I left her without a face because I thought she looked really, really cool that way in that drawing. A quick intuitive sketch of a closed wing is below her, with a test of the contrast between ink and 9B pencil to the side of that.

Before I left the doodle party, I asked for one last request to do very quickly. "Vinyl Scratch playing Octavia's instrument!" was what I got.

Ugh.

I don't know how to draw a cello! And I refused to use a reference for this drawing, because I wanted to go to sleep. But I thought about the concept a bit more... and it's a pretty interesting request.

I had learned from myself throughout the prior few weeks that I have 'bad days' when I'm really not invested in what I'm drawing -- the solution being to draw something more interesting or find a reason to make the current idea interesting. I managed to do the latter with this request, and poured myself into the drawing (even though it was a lot of 'That'll do' and 'That's close enough', I did try to make it look good). And I'm rather happy with the result; it's clean, more or less sensical in terms of spatial orientation, it gets the point across, and I like Vinyl's expression quite a bit (though she's missing her horn and nostril).
