Description
It's finally finished! This is the great 's linework for a TF Mosaic piece back in the day:
I colored the first panel alone a few years back, but never got brave enough to tackle the entire page. Till now. I've been lucky enough that channandeller has always supported me putting markers onto his lineart for this piece. But it's intimidating! There's so much going on here! And I so wanted to do the art justice. It's in my top 10 faves of all time. And I'm not alone in thinking this; the guys at the local copy place made one extra printout when I went in and got this put onto some good 11x17" comic board for Markerin'. They begged and pleaded to be allowed to keep it. So pal, your artwork is hanging in the back of the shop here, inspiring everyone who works there. They love it. Just sayin'!
I wanted to color this in intense colors. Because what's happening is intense, all right. I wanted the look to accentuate the emotionality of the conflict. I always color this in sunset. but whereas last time I actually put the sun in, this time I did not. It's down just past the right side of the page, I guess. I had it in, but it was distracting, and I realized the lightsource in the lineart did not quite mesh with where I'd put it. So, no visible sun.
I absolutely LOVE all the debris in this. I say it every time. But trying to get everything colored and cool-lookin' while not detracting from the bots themselves proved a real challenge -- especially in that central panel. Oh man. Megs DID NOT want to stand out from the background. I tried.
There's such wonderful continuity in this line work. Everything feels like it's actually there, like the bots are moving through an existing space. So good! I am so honored to have been allowed to color this piece.
Prismacolor markers on 11x17" comic board, with bits of colored pencil [to cover mistakes] and even white gel pen where I absolutely had to make Megs's legs pop out from the background.
AARGH. Please forgive how the scanner ate it.

Nice, but I'll go with the white-in-places version.
But as you say, Megs DID NOT want to stand out from the background.
Gotta respect that. Give him his one-frame-per vorn time for humble moments.

Noo! Lord Megatron! You can still beat him!
That aside - you did a fantastic job on the colouring. Do you use any particular kind of markers? Usually when I use markers, the coloured area tends to look very 'liney', if you know what I mean...

Oh, I know all too well what you mean about "liney"! I still fight it, especially as my scanner sees lines far more than the naked eye does......
I use Prismacolor markers, but I have a couple Copics, as well as a few other random types I can't remember the names of. A lot of people like Copics a lot, but they're even more expensive than Prisma's, and the brush-tip throws me. So I stick to what works for me. If you're interested in experimenting with the medium, I recommend looking for a big random batch of Prismacolor markers on Amazon or Ebay, where they'll be cheaper (full price is $4-ish per marker; try to find something for $2 or less. I had good luck doing the "random assortment" thing).
Hope this helps! Best of luck! If you do end up markering up something, let me know!

Thanks for the suggestion! I bought a load of Copics recently that were on offer at our local WHSmiths, but I'll keep an eye out for the prismacolour pens too!

This looks absolutely incredible! Kind of old-school but looks really fresh too.
I love the orange merging with the blue for the background. Looks all dynamic and stuff! Very cool!

HOLY BATMAN, SMOKES?? You mean you Actually Have a Hanging Masterpiece??
Spoken like a true boss, and you deserve it for all the Effort and Love you put into your colours
Love those cold grey / blue tones on Megatron against the vivid red / orange counterparts on Optimus... isn't it amazing what a difference colours make?
the only single tiny teeny weeny thing that bothers me, is the bright purple on megatrons glorious neck joints but im not supposed to say anything bad against our glorious leader so dont tell him i told you

Thanks pal!!! I love colors. I love dem so hardd.
Yeah, I'm unsure about the PURPLENECK1 as well, but if I'd done it some less in-your-face color, it would have lost the IN!YO!FACE! aspect the entire page has, and that I was trying for. I did several versions of neckcables[unf] but stopped at this because my brain was in SO-DONE-NOW mode.

Thanks pal. I enjoyed working on this so darnblasted much.
I'm just glad you drew it and let me play around with it!
If you and Hde decide to put lettering on it, that's fine, by the way. I'd love to see how it looks!
