I know you need dexterity and range of motion and all in your hands, but.....no protection!!!!!
This is an incredible picture in an artistic way, but more so to me...tugs at some emotions.

The phrase, "OOOOH! What does THIS button DO?" comes to mind. Dexter's Laboratory FTW! And this is a very touching and eye opening image of what is really happening over there.

It's no different than DDs following other popular events like Valentine's Day, President's Day, Independence Day, Christmas Day, Easter, etc. Besides, Military Photojournalism has received DDs before. This is no different. If Avatar had won, the front page would probably be blue.

Hi great shot! Question if a bomb did go of how much would that "gear" protect you? just curious, at first I thought you were a robot that defused bombs but then after enlarging I noticed the small hands and then your face.

Depends on the bomb. It'll protect you from most shrapnel at a fair distance, but most modern IEDs are designed to penetrate armour. So if someone straps a bunch of HE Anti-tank rounds together, and they go off when you are sat next to it, the armour won't help you.

ahh i see wonder if you would feel anything at all.

Couple of HE Anti-tank rounds? I'd hope not. Although with that much explosive force less than a foot from your head, you wouldn't feel anything for long.
I honestly cannot imagine doing what they do. I can't even lift the armour suit when it's got the steel plating in it.

one thing I find funny.
We plant bombs, then defuse them. And then admire those who do that and call them "heroes" or "idols" .
well how about not planting any bombs in the first place? but yeah, that'd mean that there aren't any heroes to worship. hah.

"We plant bombs, then defuse them. And then admire those who do that and call them "heroes" or "idols" ."
No, they defuse bombs that other people plant so that they don't kill anyone. Risking their lives to prevent the death of others, yeah, i'd say that can fit the definition of a "hero".

then you're a hero too if you don't plant bombs in the first place

hypnos In reply to SolidSake [2010-03-10 06:40:02 +0000 UTC]
Oh, i'm not a hero, lol, i don't think i could ever be an EOD. But i have a friend in the air force that is EOD and it's Explosive Ordnance Disposal, just think of the bomb squads in police forces. They learn how to make bombs so that they know how to defuse them, but they only get called in to remove them, they set bombs to kill other people.
