Lynne re-read the text at least a dozen times. “Uh oh,” she said. “Uh oh?” Adie asked in reply, “why ‘Uh oh?’” “Well,” started Lynne, “it looks like the other six aren’t going to make it.” A chill ran over Adie, “Oh no! What happened?”
"Lexi says they were all on the same flight out and it landed at the wrong airport. The next flight over this way isn’t until 8PM tonight. They’re considering just grabbing a hotel for the night and flying in tomorrow morning.” Lynne responded. “The pilot had one job! How far off course do you have to be to land at the wrong airport?” Adie grumped. After a minute (and almost simultaneously) their eyes wandered towards the feast laid out on the table. “So what do we do about all of this?” Lynne asked.
Now, as the narrator, I have an obligation to tell the story how it is. Because of this, I cannot stress enough how little hesitation there was in Adie’s voice when she responded with, “WE EAT IT. ALL OF IT. We’ll split it even, you get 4 plates, 3 burritos, and a tray of cupcakes, and I get 4 plates, 3 burritos, and a tray of cupcakes.”
There they stood, Lynne ready to throw in the towel to a feast she hadn’t even started, and Adie more excited than she was when she thought her friends were going to visit.
