Description Oy...the devil is certainly in the details.

In this iteration, there are:
  • phaser turrets, halfway between TOS and TMP, as inspired by WideFoot's USS Mariner
  • light cluster above the bridge for the saucer badge lighting
  • RCS Thruster Packs on the top and bottom of the saucer section
  • completely rebuilt the back end and the proper beginning of the shuttle bay
  • navigational deflector housing and space energy field attraction sensors (seriously, that's what they are called)
  • holes in the saucer for the ventral sensors, since the dome has to be reduced because of photorp line-of-fire.
  • added emergency flush intakes on the leading edges of the nacelle struts

Nice details. It seems like the red lights are really pixelated, what's causing that?

this is just an ambient occlusion render i'm using just to show off modelling additions.  right now, i'm just throwing in some super-saturated primary colour texture to delineate certain features.

Pretty cool, though I think you overdid the phaser banks a little bit. Four forward, four port and four aft with three banks of photon torpedoes? That's more than TNG had and this is such a wee ship.

first of all, thanks!

but if you look at the TMP Enterprise, this is the case with the phasers on the saucer section: each "bank" had two small turrets to allow for pin-point or wide angle phaser fire. lh5.ggpht.com/_Qbmi8z4M5Yo/SuF…

also, there is but one photon torpedo bank on this ship so far (i think i will add a rear facing one, though)...three?

Fair enough, though this looks much smaller than TMP. I was considering the size of the warp engines opposed to the amount of phaser banks against the mass of the ship. I used to play a Star Trek video game where you could custom build each spaceship and smaller vessels invariably could only house smaller warp engines and thus couldn't power the needs of multiple phaser banks (without losing power to some other essential system like shields).

I meant a bank of three, but yes, I think a torpedo to the rear would be essential good reason though not honorable. A torpedo faced aft would mean they are running away from a fight (and they never ran from a fight).

certainly this is not a heavy cruiser: the phasers being large not because they are necessarily powerful, but because they are the new style of two turrets/per bank and miniaturization of the components hasn't caught up with the technology yet.  you'll see in the next update that i've gone with a more TOS-leaning approach to the navigational deflector.

one this this ship DOES have, due to its size and health portion of impulse thrust, is manoeuvrability.

as for the rear-facing photorp, it's is more for the the honourless p'tahk that tries to sneak up behind you, like the coward he/she/it is!

Oh this is a lovely ship and she's coming along nicely! How many decks, about eight?

Ah ok, so even smaller than my post-TNG scoutship.

oooh...i looked in your gallery but didn't find your scout...is it posted elsewhere?

Ah, it's the Catalina. I referred to it as 'scout' only in its first WIP, but dropped that designation as the design evolved to become more modularized and configurable for multirole use cases. Apologies for the confusion m8

gotcha...i just took a gander at your latest WIP and saw the cross-section for the first time.  i think what threw me was the similarity of the silhouette to the Enterprise-D and that you haven't added windows yet.

Danny420Dale In reply to harroldsheep [2015-05-12 15:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, its silhouette and warp dynamics are rather similar to a Galaxy-class ship, but it's only ~1/50 the volume of a GCS.  The primary hull is also a 40° instead of 55° ellipse. This potential for confusion with the GCS is one reason I developed Catalina's MSD right from the start.

Also, I just suck at windows.

i don't think that's a very healthy habit.  is that like licking windows but with a more dedicated work ethic?
