Description Not even close to finishing this thing yet, and Acen is in 10 days!

I got the vinyl wrap done. I got the video screen installed. Those were the hard parts. Next on the list is:

Wire up the rest of the 4 color LEDs
Wire up the rumble motor
Wire up the amp and speaker
Add barrel and tactical rail to the front part
Get all the switches and pushbuttons installed and working.

And I still need to finish my Axton cosplay! :/

I'm hoping there will be a video for this like there was for the Bane!

Kind of a shame you couldn't kill the light strike noises and use game audio in its place but still pretty sweet. I guess the one thing that would have made it absolutely perfect in my eyes would be if it would have been possible to make the circular part (I believe its a magazine in the game) spin like it does in the game, but otherwise absolutely fantastic.

Nah, the Maliwan SMG really only makes one noise and it's not anything special. Also, it probably wouldn't sound that great at the low bitrate that the audio chip takes. Making the mag spin would have been awesome, but then I wouldn't have been able to make it light up. It's totally doable: ammo mag on a shaft in a skateboard bearing, shaft connected to a small brushless motor. I love the Light Strike guns for their huge amount of crazy functions, audio effects, and RGB LED effects. Plus, it was easier for me to cut n gut and put in Light Strike parts than to design a whole new circuit that had one or two sound effects, RGB LEDs, amplified audio, and multiple motors. Hell of a lot cheaper, too.

You may have gotten me very interested now in a possible exploration of these guns now.

For now I'll just be unburying my old laser tag pistols from when I was 7 and pitting them against the Plasma Pistol I just got in the mail for stupidly cheap.

Heck I'm sure if someone went about making Halo frames you could toss the Light Strike internals in them and get something going. Could be neat.

I'm working on it, but a good laser tag system is pretty expensive ($100+ per gun), so I'll probably stick to Nerf shells for my Light Strike stuff for now.

Looks bloody awesome! Especially love how you nailed the front barrel attachment & the magazine (really curious how you got it the rounded look...I had to fudge the detail on the ones I've been working on)

It was a bit of trial and error with folding cardstock and then applying the template to a sheet of Sintra, and then using a heat gun and bending jig to fold the Sintra.

because I am making a super villain like gun using a nerf Vulcan I would love to know how you made the honey comb pattern on your gun and what you used (how you made) the screen on your gun as well ( is the picture on the screen just for show?)

The color stripes and hex pattern (and circuit traces, bet you didn't even notice those in the game!) are printed on industrial clear vinyl and applied one part at a time. The body of the Firefly is over 80 different shapes that have to be trimmed and fit into place!

The screen is an Insignia 3.5" digital photo frame. It was the only way I could think of to have white letters on a screen where I could change the color. I could have printed orange on a thin white film to get the white letters, but then I wouldn't be able to change the color to another element. I really need to finish working on my white inkjet cartridges. :/

Thanks! I'm learning it as I go, but I'll have more awesome vinyl jobs in the future!

Still one of my favorite movies. I saw it 5 times in the theater. I discovered that you can watch it with the old polarized film 3D glasses, and all the CG looked like it was in 3D. It was pretty mind-blowing in 1997 watching the taxi chase scenes and seeing a shitload more depth.

Certainly beat whatever we watch nowadays right out the park with a lot more imagination going into the execution, a lot of which is clearly shown in the care you take making your weaponry. The final results are astounding in my opinion!

Duuuude. This one might be damn near your masterpiece once it's finished. Even as it is, the texture and shine on this thing elevate it far beyond any other Maliwan mod I've ever seen, including your other ones.

Yeah, I'm loving this vinyl, but it's tricky to work with on curved surfaces. Getting all the shapes and stripes to line up on the gun is also taking multiple iterations. There's over 80 separate vinyl shapes that have to be applied to JUST the Firefly body. Also, I still can't figure out how B2 applies the hex pattern in the game, I've tried a bunch of stuff in Illustrator/Photoshop to apply it over the colored stripes, and the closest I can come is either with Overlay, or Darken, or just normal with a 25% transparency, but the texture in the game lightens and darkens the colors according to the "hex texture", but I'm pretty sure it still applies black around the individual hexagons, instead of saying "black is 100% of the underlying color". I suppose I should try adding another layer over the hex pattern that is just a black hex outline. That might work.

Also, I need to get the circuit traces to stand out more.
