Description
Lots of things I don't like with this build, but I didn't have 100+ hours to spend on it. Had to mount the AA battery for the LED counter on the outside so the user could actually replace it without having to open up the gun. There's a couple little detail bits that I had to change, and a few that I had to leave off because of time constraints but overall, it looks pretty damn good.I'm pretty excited to see what it looks like with paint on it, since the original pulse rifle didn't have very much detail, and the Stampede is all little bits to catch weathering and scratches and whatnot.

despite the imperfections, the final product looks better than the source material IMHO.

I've never seen that Halo 4 SAW before. It looks like it would be a nice paintjob for the Stampede without any physical mods.

Sup man, I just got this gun! What did u use for the white parts? are they pvc sheeting? I wanna mod mine into a Halo rail gun!

Yeah it's quarter inch pvc. US Plastics seems to be out of it right now though. Must be getting pretty popular to work with, I've never had a hard time getting it before...

I heard sintra is easier to work with, but I can't get in china. PVC sheets are cheap and plenty here but its damn hard to cut the thicker it gets.

Yeah the stuff I used was either EXTRUDED or EXPANDED PVC, I believe Sintra is a brand name of extruded PVC sheet. I can't find the invoice for the sheets that I used for the Pulse Rifle build, but I'm pretty sure it was expanded PVC, it's VERY easy to machine and form with a heat gun. My concern with making more things out of Sintra is that it has a very low forming temperature, and I've heard stories of people leaving Sintra props and armor in the car or in the hot sun, and having it melt and warp. :/

Well with the low melt stuff I would fabricate with it and mold it. The final will be fiberglass resin. Its usually the modding process is toughest to bend, cut and shape these damn sheets so the low temp is good. I've burnt myself a lot with heat gun using pvc pipes cut in half and its not perfectly straight. I don't have a hot wire foam cutter or any other big machines to do any wood work so its all done by hand and dremel.

I just used a table vise, some jigs, and a heat gun to form these parts. We're planning on making a "Stampulse Rifle" kit with a high impact urethane resin cast shell instead of the pvc. Polyester resin (for fiberglass) is too brittle for me and not impact resistant enough.

drop by me and check mine out im also using the stampede
but iv realy hacked mine in to little bits to fit the m41 shape n size
it is at the moment living in a box under my bench lol

I saw that, it looks good! This gun was required to be a working Stampede, so I had to leave a lot of the Stampede alone.

oh mine works
the stampede is still under there chucking darts around 90 feet and at a faster rate of fire too im using a rc battery to up the fire rate with out frying the motor
you would be surprised what you can saw off the stock guns that dont do any thing lol
like your build though

Thanks, I like yours too! There's a lot more I could have done with it or cut off of it, but I was working on a tight schedule. If you really wanted to, you could just make a resin cast Pulse Rifle shell and put the Stampede guts into it, but that's a more labor intensive project.
I'm working on something similar though...

years back i had a mold of it from the film it was 90% there but over the years the resin attacked the rubber
i keep meaning on making a new one from a master i would have cast now i will have to build but never get the time always got jobs in for other people only get time to do small stuff for my self to sell ect ya know how it is lol

I can get a resin cast pulse rifle for about $400, but I dont' know if it's really worth it to make more Stampede pulse rifles if I make a kit. I just got the Cushman Paintball vacuformed pulse rifle shell, and it's okay but not great. Comparing it to the Stampede, there's still a lot you have to cut and move around, and I have much more exciting things planned right now.
Borderlands 2 is coming, and I just found the best light/sound board for nerf guns.

i now about borderlands 2 also among other stuff in caught up building eldar 40k stuff for some ones birthday
gonna be nailed to the bench for a while on that then iv a tone of other stuff to do for clients too
there just is never enough days in the week i already do a 52 day week lol

Thanks! It's not too tough, and you could probably use corrugated cardboard or something easier to work with than PVC sheet.

This is still on my to do list, I have had the sides and stock cut out of heavy card for about 6 months... that was back when I thought I'd be able to buy sintra here and then discovered I couldn't. I also made my own ammo counter.. it's now in a baggy in a drawer
Kudos to you for taking it on and making it look so awesome, I truly can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks! It wasn't difficult to build, just very time consuming. I want to see if I can make a kit and cast the shroud pieces in smooth cast or slush cast vinyl sometime. I think I paid 40 for the airsoft shotgun and the cage came off of it very easily. It wouldn't be hard to put another nerf gun in it if you had the time. The ammo counter circuit is something I'm going to want to find pre-assembled though. Soldering components is also incredibly time consuming.

I hear you re the soldering, I soldered mine and had next to no soldering experience, it was fiddly and annoying and trying to work out what pins lit what lines was a nightmare.
If you cast parts for a particular Nerf gun I bet you would sell a bucket load of them, heck I would buy a few myself.
I can't wait to see this one finished.

Hypercats In reply to GirlyGamerAU [2012-06-05 16:37:15 +0000 UTC]
The soldering was easy, I've got a lot of experience. The problem is that seven-segment LEDs are supposed to be powered by an IC chip that outputs a higher voltage that is dropped down to 1.8v with resistors. Since I was putting the battery pack on the outside of the gun, I didn't want a large footprint with something like a 2xAA battery holder. I could have used a 9v, but then I would have had to wire up one resistor for every pin on the LED to drop it to 1.8v, but I didn't know what I had for room to work with all the wires, soldering, and the switch without having to cut the gun open again and hide everything in there. Also, the LEDs are constantly on which drains the battery faster than if you were to make a circuit that had them flash at a rate that looks like a constant on.
So I guess if you're going to do something like this, use a 9v and some resistors to make it brighter?

I feel like that's posed as a question lol to which I have no answer. I literally went into the electronics store, explained to the guy what I was doing and he gave me the parts, drew a little diagram showing me where the resistors went and the switch and the battery (which was some round lithium thing from memory), I got home and soldered the hell out of it, touching each pin as I went with it all hooked up to work out what lines lit up and soldered them to make two random numbers. I gave it a shot, but it wasn't fun. I'd love to know more about how to do it all, with the different power sources and circuits but I have no time. At the moment I need to find time to teach myself how to draw 3d printable files... that will be fun I'm sure.

Nah, it was more of a suggestion. Counters are a pain in the butt and I'd rather just save some time and buy the completed circuit next time.

It's okay, but there aren't a lot of stock parts for it. I think you can make crazier guns with a Long Strike or Recon base and any of the multitude of attachment parts.
