Description A collaboration with Brian Johnson, I put a smaller battery pack in it and apparently the 1.5 volts wasn't enough to make the LED counter anything more than "slightly dim". Also, the shitty Radio Shack linear switch I used took a shit. I tore all the wiring out, along with the seven segment LED display, the switch, and battery pack, and replaced it with a 3v AA pack, better switch, and new LED display (no idea if there were problems with the old one, I just wanted all fresh parts just in case). The new problem I had, and this was the main reason I didn't want to do it this way in the first place, was that I need resistors for every pin of the seven segment LED display that is lit. Having "25" show up means I need 10 fat resistors soldered in the middle of the wiring, then I have to bundle up two sections of five wires and five resistors, and make it fit in a quarter inch channel that is covered up by the LED counter plate. Not very easy at all. I had to take the wire bundles apart multiple times and re adjust them to get everything to fit. It would have been much easier to wire everything with the stampede taken apart so I can run wires inside the gun and tape them down, but I didn't do the wiring originally until after the gun was built, and I also didn't want to hide a battery pack inside the gun, especially since this LED counter eats batteries which is the other reason I didn't want to go with 2AA batteries: You still put out 3 volts, but now you're wasting 1.2 of that on the damn resistors.

Great job on the shroud. I recently bought an aluminium shroud thinking I could jury rig it to fit either a Stampede or Longshot. There would have been too much hacking to make it fit.

Now I'm thinking of sourcing Airsoft versions of the guns that went into the original movie prop: Spas 12 shotgun, Thompson M1A1, and Remington M870.

This hobby gets more and more expensive by the day!

It does, but make sure to cheat whenever you can! I used a the cheapest and closest airsoft gun I could find for the Spas 12 grenade launcher, and it was super easy to take apart, cut, and attach. What I'd love to do is get another one to make a shroud that fits the Rough Cut 2x4, but I think it's too wide for that. It would be nice to have a "left half" and "right half" shell that you can just bolt to your Stampede/Rough Cut combo.

I hear you, dude...I'm going to try molding and casting the handgrip on the Firestrike in amber colored resin to get the true Blade Runner look. Would love to have some molds of each side of the Longshot that were shaped to fit the pulse rifle shoud...

Yeah big molds like that are fun to make, but expensive. I'm not looking forward to making molds for the Stampede/Rough Cut shrouds. That, and slushcasting 2 foot long molds with plaster mother molds. Blech.

You can come over and help me slosh 20 oz of liquid resin around in a 25lb plaster mold then. This damn thing was made with a series of half-cylinder molds so I would have symmetrical sides.

They were big and heavy and your arms get tired before the resin hardens. :/

Dude, are you asking me on a date?

Hahaha. If that's your idea of a date, you're probably doing it wrong.

Also, I was replying to comments on the Pulse Rifle and was thinking about trying to make a quick n dirty PR shroud with high impact foam, since it's easy for people to get and it seems like everyone and their grandma are using it for costumes and guns these days. What do you think about me making some templates for people to print out, trace over foam, cut, and hotglue to a Stampede?

I'd be all over that. If you want to use me as a guinea pig I'd be happy to give it a go. I've got a couple of Stampedes lying around doing nothing.

Cool, I just got a new scroll saw, and we're looking at using someone's vacuform table to make the shrouds. Can you cut a stampede apart if you had to?

For sure. I've got a couple of spares lying around. Do they have to remain functional? Or is this apurely aesthetic mod?

Nah, I'm thinking aesthetic. I'm going to be getting a membership to a prototyping shop in May that has a really nice vacuform table. The plan is to make the shrouds vacuformed plastic, and the rest of the shell parts hot vinyl slush or urethane resin.

Recently picked up some extra Stampedes on sale would love to try and build one of these myself. Where did you get the shotgun shell for the grenade launcher?

Thanks! It was a pretty fun build, and I want to make urethane resin kits to make this easier next time.
