Description My second entry in *4bstr4ct4rt 's Abstract Elements Contest , chosen to represent Air. Invisible in itself, it manifests in a most awesome and destructive manner in the form of whirlwinds and the much larger hurricanes.

dust cloud or rock, i think that fits quite well. i see both, the rigid lines and fractured putting-together of the element seems quite harsh and 'rocky' but the colours have an airyness to them, clouds of coloured gas... nebulaish?

Indeed, it does seem to have a split personality

Oh Indeed. Very much indeed. Oh yes. Running out of things to say in affirmation..

I saw this in the Abstract Elements Contest and thought it was crystals. Congrats. Great work.

Yes, it certainly seems to have a dual personailty: dust cloud or rock

This is very reminiscent of an aerial photograph of a hurricane: super realisation of the concept

I see both clouds and wind, swirling and wreaking havoc, grabbing anything and everything in their path.

Living on the Texas gulf coast I am unfortunately quite familiar with hurricanes and the shape is definitely hurricane-like but the colors remind me more of stone.

I imagine it's rather scary - only ever caught the tail-end of one, but I had to lean at close to 45 degrees to maintain forward motion

Good texture effect ; for me it's like some of the rocks we have here.

Yes, I can see it more now - the semi-precious crystalline minerals

Absolutely gorgeous!

Cool! But in the words of Wallace Stevens, there would seem to be "an insolid billowing of the solid"

winklepickers [2008-08-26 10:03:24 +0000 UTC]

Why did you choose these colours?
Is it to suggest the flying earth and buildings drawn up into the air?

We once had a minute whirlwind in my back garden. It scattered stuff everywhere, especially cabbage leaves from next door.

I'm afraid of wind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IDeviant In reply to winklepickers [2008-08-26 15:43:43 +0000 UTC]

They were initially chosen fairly randomly in a search for something aesthetically pleasing - sometimes I know what colours I want, others I scroll down trying this and that. But then it became apparent that it resembled the dust and debris drawn up by a whirlwind - I could have aimed for more realism, but then it would be less abstract
