Description
Surprisingly, no one did a scorecard on this show yet, thus I'm the first one to do a scorecard on this show. Speaking of that, this cartoon feels popular then and now.My Life as a Teenage Robot isn't a show I touched upon before I started reviewing, but that doesn't mean that I'll move along to my summary now. I was actually planning to review this show back in October 2016, but because that I took a break from cartoons, I never did that, but I decided to watch and review this show during spring break.
After the delays, I've finally watched the series. *sigh* Yet another lukewarm show in my point of view (shut up). I mean, the episodes are better and compared to the percentage from the amount of episodes that were at least good to just not worth it (46% to 37%), I can infer that My Life as a Teenage Robot and other action shows are better than science related cartoons, but that's not saying much. Half of the episodes were good, but the reason this show was pushed to alright is because of the amount of episodes that were in the meh range. It's no surprise that this cartoon is interesting at first, but my blames are tossed at the 3rd season.
This show might look like it has potential, but Season 3 took it all away to be an ample show. How's the writing?
When I first read the premise, I thought it was very good, but it's not really original per say. This show is like a spoof of Astro Boy but with colors, and how did it go? Well? Yeah, but only for the first 2 seasons. While watching every episode, I can see connections with this cartoon and Star vs. the Forces of Evil, considering that it's an action cartoon, the heroine is our main character, and Brad and Marco feel similar to each other (I mean, their voice sound pretty much like and their character traits).
Anyways, this show has good potential. It can sometimes remain promising at first, but due to the cancerous negative of the show, predictability, and feeling similar to other episodes, a bunch of episodes are just okay or even below that. While several episodes tried to stay original, there are others that were generic and boring. That is one thing that can make this show feel a little generic or just As Told by Ginger all over again. The episodes are creative and can be interesting, but substance is probably missing in a few episodes. Most episodes from the 3rd season are just rehashes of other episodes from the first 2 seasons and there are others that are just bland as well. Considering that Rob Renzetti worked for Cartoon Network back in the 90s, he might bring in some of the writing formula of Dexter's Laboratory (which will later evolve into The Loud House's 1B Formula), 2 Stupid Dogs, and The Powerpuff Girls with him. While Cartoon Network's writing tries to affect a Nicktoon, the episodes stay to be creative and have very good potential.
The writing had the good and the bad neck and neck, but I'm on the fence for the writing now. I'm sure that the animation will improve:
Like what I said before, Teenage Robot shares similarities with Astro Boy, and how did they do? Solid, but divine to be specific. I really liked how the colors and designs make this show differ from other cartoons of the decade by looking like a retro cartoon such as Mickey Mouse, Popeye, and Looney Tunes. The colors can occasionally get ugly, but that's a minor flaw. Also, My Life as a Teenage Robot's animation looked like it influenced Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends because their backgrounds are simplistic and they both sometimes use old Hanna-Barbera sound effects. The title cards are interesting because they give me a feeling of propaganda along with some title cards of cartoons from the 40s and 50s. And yeah, that's all I have to say about the animation. It's pretty solid and while it can get ugly, it's visually appealing for most of us.
The animation isn't lukewarm, but the writing is a mix, let's see if the characters can make this show what it is:
Some of the characters are bland, but because that they were given character development and we know some stuff about them, it makes them just good. A lot of characters needed to be worked into more relatable and act more than just generic flat wonders, which includes Sheldon and those popular girls at school. I mean, I kind of like them, it's just that they need more detail and interesting in order for me to like them as much as XJ9 (Jenny), Dr. Wakeman, and Vexus. Nothing else has to be said about them, but one thing that ruins them is flanderization. Yes, there's flanderization in this show, most of them being in the 3rd season. They can be derailed to be either crazy or annoying to make me dislike them even more. All of them can act annoying, but character development must be shown to save the day. While the characters can be likable sometimes, I had to face through their annoyance.
Ugh, I was hoping this show to be solid at first, but thank you Season 3 to ruin all the fun. This show could've been a divine show with very good potential, divine animation that references the retro era and a few relatable characters, but with writing that looked like The Loud House took lessons from and a bunch of forgettable characters, I'm not really going to watch this show in a while considering that I don't find this show as a whole to be enjoyable to me. Oh well, at least Season 1 was solid, but then it got worse and worse, with the final rating for this show becoming alright (67%).
I'm currently disappointed in this show right now because Johnny Test, an overhated cartoon, is better than this show with potential. I'm not saying that Johnny Test was bad, it's just that My Life as a Teenage Robot is a show that I could've liked in the first place. But sadly, the 3rd season must be faced for me. *sigh* Better luck next time, action cartoons.

Can you add 7 extra episodes to each of the top 10s?
