Description
So earlier today Sega released a demo of Sonic Forces on the Japanese switch Eshop, so I finally got a chance to try out the game. And ... it was fun, I wish I got to play more of each level since each level only had a one minute time limit, but I still enjoyed the very VERY short time I had with the levels. In the past I was really worried about the Switch version since I heard it didn't run very well at E3, but after playing the switch version for myself I found it to be just fine. Sure it's still only 30fps and I wish it was 60 like the other systems, but I do feel a lot less uneasy about getting the Switch version. I mean I already fully preordered that version yesterday so I'd be stuck with that version even if I didn't find the performance on the demo good, but it's just good to take one of my fears of the game off. I just wish the demo was able to erase all the other fears I had, cause while I did find the game fun, I do have some big issues with it. The level design in Modern Sonic's stage was one of the most linear stages I've played in a Sonic game, Sure I wasn't able to play the entire level because of that damn time limit, but I don't really have much hope it'll get any less linear as the stage goes on. There's not much objectively wrong with Classic Sonic's stage, but it's just the same boss level we've seen at E3 so there wasn't really a good chance for me to get a good feel with him, plus since we only got 60 seconds we can't actually beat the boss so that sucks. Now onto the avatar's stage, I've seen some people say the avatar controls horribly, while others say it controls fine so long as you get used to it, And after playing through the level I kinda have to agree with the latter. the controls for the avatar do feel very weird at first, but once I was able to figure which button does what, I managed to go through his/her level fine. Out of the 3 wisps the demo showed off I was able to adjust to the burst wisp the quickest since it was very simple to use, the lighting and block wisps I do still have a bit of trouble using, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of them once the full game comes out and there isn't a limit on how long you can play, like seriously Sega if you didn't want use to see these full levels yet then fine, but if that was the case then why couldn't you have just used the ones we already know the entirely of like Sunset Heights or the tag team stage, You used the same Classic Sonic stage we've seen at E3 so why not use the other E3 stages as well? Still like I said, despite the problems I had with the demo, I still did have fun. Modern's stage while linear I still wanted to play through it a couple times to see just how far I can get before the time limit runs out. Same with the avatar, I wanted to see how far I could get with each of the wisps. So do I think Sonic Forces will be an great game? honestly at this point I don't. Most of the levels they've showed us have been too linear to be all that exciting, and the music while it isn't bad it has took little while for me to get into each of the songs, and should it? shouldn't I be all down with Sonic music by the first hearing? Even Fist Bump I actually wasn't really to keen on until after the vocal version came out, and even then it still took me a good number of hearings for me to really appreciate it. Now despite what I just said, do I think Forces will at least be enjoyable for me? yeah I think it will. I have a pretty good feeling it's going to join the list of Sonic I don't think are technically very good, but I can still squeeze some enjoyment out of. Let's take Sonic R for example, the controls in that game are complete garbage, and the way you unlock characters and collect chaos emeralds are very annoying, but the music in that game is so damn good that it's the only reason I keep coming back to it. And hell even Shadow's game despite it's many MANY flaws I actually do enjoy. Sure having to play through the game at least 10 times to unlock the true ending really sucks, and some of the missions are just outright abysmal, but I don't know, whenever I come back to the game I just find myself having a good time. So yeah I do feel Forces is going to be another one of those games that have major issues, but I'll get a kick out of it anyway. Of course I do still hope I'm wrong and the game does turn out to be genuinely amazing, but I feel it may be best if I lower my expectations, that way I won't feel completely disappointed.Related content

Exactly how Forces ended up for me. Not the best game ever, but one I could have fun with.

According to Aaron Webber of SEGA of America, the Forces demo wasn’t meant for the west, because Westerners are a LOT more critical of video games. And it shows.

I think Forces, through all the hate and jokes it receives, pushes back in an equal force to silence the haters and bandwagon normies of the internet. I'm prepared to be wowed and disappointed, and I am psyched for the game as a whole. This may be the ONLY OPPORTUNITY for us to create a character from scratch in a Sonic game. And by the looks of it, SEGA is going all-out on it being the game that saved the blue blur's reputation.

I personally believe Sonic games today have no chance in hell of reaching the incredible heights their earlier games in the series did. This being said, I still find enjoyment out of games like Colors, Both Parts of Sonic 4, Generations, Lost Worlds, and of course, Mania, and I hope to find some enjoyment with Forces...

After Rise of Lyric, I learned not to expect too much from anything.

I heard that the demo was release on public. But is only on the nintendo switch and you need a Japanese account.

The demo is also timed to one minute, just to avoid spoiling the rest of the whole stages.
