Description
12 x 18 Oil on PaperFantasy Flight Games recently revealed this alternate card art I did as a prize for the Star Wars: Armada World Championships! I don't often find myself painting Vader without his lightsaber, but focusing on his military prowess was a fun thematic departure.

How gorgeous, the plastic effect of the helmet is so well executed! May I ask what type of paper you used??Β

It's actually Epson Velvet Fine Art inkjet paper. I did the preliminary drawing digitally and printed it out. Then I used acrylic matte medium to mount the printout to a piece of masonite and seal the surface. The paper has to be fully sealed and protected so that it doesn't actually absorb any of the oil from the paints (and deteriorate over time).

Thanks a lot for the info, acrylic usually goes well on paper, but oil...I'll take note of this!Β

You're welcome! I should also mention that if you do decide to try it out, make sure you wet the paper before mounting it with the matte medium - otherwise it'll buckle and won't mount flat. Here's a description of the mounting technique: www.donatoart.com/technique/mo⦠.
