Description
My first attempt at a sci-fi fighter craft, painted from scratch in Photoshop CS5. This image is not available to buy as it's copyrighted by the client.I used one-point perspective initially, and then called on the vanishing point tool to get better perspective by setting up grids and planes. This took me about 3 weeks, on and off.
I would never have guessed something like this could be so hard to do, but I had to really get my head around 'form' and functionality.
Any new subject matter can be a real challenge, but defeat is not an option. This object went through many changes, but I am finally satisfied. Done for 'New Worlds Project'.

Back when I used to draw, I had a much easier time drawing buildings than vehicles, for some reason those always were the toughest to do.Β
I really like the styling for this one, It kinda brings to mind either a shelby cobra, or a WWII fighter.Β

Thanks - yes, I think my inspiration is definitely 'old fashioned' compared to today's designs generally. Yes, buildings are easier I think, by far.

not to less details. It's perfect for SciFi Games! ^_^)

You always have to think what sense
the details make. For example
Steampunk things have toooo
much details they actually don't need.
(anyways the look cool, bad example xD)

Indeed steampunk is very detailed. Never been a huge fan of the steampunk designs to be honest, though the skill level to draw it is excellent.

Yeah you are right!
After Bioshock-game-seriesΒ
I became a little interested in it.Β
(not a fan of steampunk, but I like it)

an interesting concept, though for some reason it looks like a medical pod to me.

IT wasn't used in the end, my knowledge of space ships isn't anywhere near developed enough yet.

Well I am sure you can get something in eventually.Β I suppose they have a standard what human ships or ships in general should look like.Β In most games they look like junk heaps to me.

If you're gonna design spacecraft, you might wanna know how they work before you get carried away

Not bad - but it's clear that you struggled with this... It isn't as convincing as your other stuff...
When the design team for the Homeworld games wanted to get in to the mindset of designing ships, they studied the work of Peter Elson (www.peterelson.co.uk/) and Chris Foss (www.chrisfossart.com/) - that's why there is a character called 'Elson' in the first game.
...give them a go!

The link comes up with a 404 error. I used to love Homeworld 2. I wish they continued the series. I always loved their designs. I need to spend a year practicing spacecraft so I can catch up with my environment level. Boy, it takes a lot of practice when it comes to new subject matter.
