Awesome tutorial
I've always loved using watercolours but I've never known how to use them properly.
Thanks for explaining how you paint, it's really helped me and the outcome is beautiful

I also finally know what 'gouache' is
My gran and I saw it when we were at an art exhibition and had no idea what it meant

I myself found I enjoy watercolor. I do it free hand with no lines. but may I ask what you use to remove the masking? I have tried to use masking once before but once done working on the background could not get the masking off

JannaFairyArt In reply to X-Reddagger-X [2008-11-27 09:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Actually it is very easy to remove the mask, just rubb it off with your fingers or with a usual eraser. It might be that you left the mask on the paper for too long time (over two days) then it is impossible to remove it anymore.
If you mask on cold presed paper you can leave the mask for one or one and half day on the paper; if you use hot press do not leave it longer then 6 hours on the peper otherwise you will not be able to remove it without destroying the peper ( and your work of couse)
I hope it is of any help to you

XOXOXO

Congratulations!
I'm gonna take time and read it, because I've been very curious HOW you do it. In school I badly sucked when it came to watercolor.

Naah, I don't even have them, and I totally suck with traditional medias. I'll stick to my photography and photomanipulation (along with some digital drawing).

This is amazing Janna!!. You explained this all really well. I really like artists who share what they know, i think it's one of the things that helps us all not only as artists but as people.the ability to share.

When i do watercolour artworks i never make them any good. they don't turn out the way i want them to, so i never show them online.

to be honest i don't know much about watercolours but this helps a lot. I might even give it another try someday haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JannaFairyArt In reply to Elven-ghost [2008-10-01 18:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!Happy you find it useful I know watercolor is very tricky medium but I like it a lot. I learned to use it on my own from books and other artists; I feel like I must give something back, so I dit this tutorial.

You can find all the information about masking fluid here [link]

tigi-si In reply to JannaFairyArt [2008-09-22 17:07:51 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I think I have a similar thing, but the girl who sold it to me said it's a thing to mix with acrylic colors so you don't have to use water. But it ruined my brushes so I'm not sure if that's the real thing to use it for.. ._.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JannaFairyArt In reply to tigi-si [2008-09-22 18:19:10 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps, she has confused with it with Blending medium or maybe with Ox Gall Liquid.I thought there is an instruction how to use the Masking Fluid on the other side of the bottle with masking fluid... If it is not mentioned there, you should always use an old brush to apply the masking fluid and wash it every time after use ( it will be destroyed anyway, so do not use good brushes)
